Big Brother experience becoming diluted
Snade
23-05-2004
Reading the press reports over the past few weeks, and especially those today it seems like more and more things to do with the Big Brother 'experience' are becoming watered down simply in a bid to hold the average viewer's 30 second attention span. I realise a lot of it's probably just tabloid heresay but when Phil Edgar-Jones says they want to incorporate elements from I'm A Celebrity... in BB5 as well as introducing couples into the house et al, I begin to wonder if this is going to become a bit too much like Back To Reality, with some really intense and interesting moments but ultimately unsatisfying because it has got to the point where everything interesting that happens in the house is either directly or indirectly controlled by the show's producers.
Surely if they've done their casting right (and god knows, they should be able to do that after five years) then the housemates shouuld be the focus of attention, not whatever bizarre punishments the production team can come up with, and not some stupid tasks whatever they happen to be, which should only really be there to get the housemates interacting not be entertainment in themselves. I'm A Celebrity... was a great show but it wasn't Big Brother, why can't they try and get their own show right rather than stealing ideas from others?

Sorry 'bout length...

Is this whole "evil" thing really just a ploy to get us to forget about the housemates? Perhaps the producers are sure they've got the right mix this year. Personally, I dont believe it, but it's got to be a possiblity?

I think everyone will just have to drum into their heads that we will not get another BB1 and 2 EVER AGAIN.

It because BB isn't new anymore, people really do know what to expect.

So it'll have to freshen up each time otherwise you end up with a IAACGMOOH 2 and a BB4!

Life evolves, people evolve, television evolves.

Big Brother will never ever be what it was. I still think it can be great again, but it will never be the same. It'd be boring if it was

What, you mean deaths? Doom? Destruction? Surely not

I agree to a point, change has (almost) always been good for Big Brother, but it has up to now been changes in how the housemates can interact with each other (the bars for instance, and the reward room, sort of), whereas some of the challenges/punishments that have been suggested for this series make it almost like some sort of a gameshow (ok, I know it is one anyway, you know what I mean).

I think that BB4 was the biggest flop ever ! However this doesn't mean that BB is over ... i think finally after 5 years and after last year's boring and worst ever BB they now want to give us a fantastic BB.
They know what we want and what we like, an evil BB is what we always wanted, and for this reason i can't understand why on earth they did what they did last year.
I think that last year's contestant are most hated in the uk !
Boring Steph and Cam... i still have their voodoo dolls and stick pins on their bodies ! GET A LIFE !
If the producers have learned from their mistakes then this year we will have some real contestants.
It is true that they know how the game works but no one can controll him or her self: if a put in the same room a gay man, quite queeny, with a skinhead ultra straight guy, do u think they are going to controll themselves ? ... i don't think so...
It's not that difficult to select some characters that cannot avoid to stand each other, and that hasn't ever being shown before.
That's why i think that regardless of the tasks and the new rules, this year is going to rock !
