Hello,
Its a bit of advice really, I really want a Freesat+ box but am a bit confused to be honest.
I have got a standard Sky dish (it is not geared up for Sky+), would I be right in saying (as it does on the Freesat website), that I can buy a Freesat+ box and be able to record other channels while watching a different one at the same time without a twin LNB?
Also if the box is HD will it work on my none HD TV?
Sorry I am a total novice to all this, I am hoping to just buy a box, plug it in and I am set up.
I cant have Freeview due to reception issues, I just really want a box that will record.
Thanks in advance, sorry for the basic wording.
(or if you could direct me to any further info I would be very grateful)

Hi, Firstly yes a HD Box will work on an SD TV, just connect it by scart and it'll work fine.

Also, with just one input you can record a channel and watch one from a limited list (you can only watch a channel on the same freaquency you are recording on) I have a Humax Foxsat HDR, not completely sure if it will be the same for every box.

Thanks for the reply, I've just been on the Humax website and it states 'Requires a working dual LNB satellite dish (Not Aerial)', do you know of a site that tells me what the limited list is please? Many thanks again.

Not completely true you can record/watch any channel in the same frequency band and polarity as tuner 1 is using. While recording two you can also watch any 3rd channel from the same transponder as either recording

See this thread and especially post 4 if you don't have a PC with Excel.

You need a short length of coax with a f connector on each end to connect tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in

I've actually been looking to convert a Sky dish on our new house to work with Freesat, it may be worth a cheap upgrade kit to convert to a dual LNB.

I found this one on eBay...

I bunged a quad lnb into my old sky dish, connected up with the f connectors to the Humax and voila - HD+ in the loung and the signal goes to 2 standard Sky dishes upstairs and in a back room. Got it all from Flea Bay no more than £20

You can only watch one channel and record another
if you have a Shotgun Cable in the room
where you want the Freesat+ box to be,
as these are single cables with two ends on each end
If you have a single cable in the room,
then you will need to put through
another non Shotgun cable through
or you can use a Shotgun Cable giving you
a total of three feeds and making you Future Proof in that room,
if you decide to upgrade the TV to a newer one,
that has Freesat Built-in

If you wanted to watch one channel
and to record two channels at the same time,
then this is the best way to go, by buying a TV
with Freesat Built-in and buying a Freesat+ box to go with it
instead of buying two boxes, unless you wanted
to record three different channels at the same time that is

Sony are currently running a scrappage scheme
where by you get money off a new TV
when you give them your old one

If you need lots of feeds in your house,
then you can get an Octo LNB on your dish
or if that is not enough, then you could get a Multiswitch

I hope this helps you

A foxsat-hdr can record two channels and even watch some 3rd channels with some restrictions by using the tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in loop to give both tuners a satellite feed
