Television with in-built freeview receiver

Hi folks,

I have a friend who is thinking of buy a TV with an in-built freeview tuner (Sony KV-28DL10)...

Would I be correct in thinking that you aren't able to record any of the Freeview channels using an external VCR?

From what I've been told there are three RF sockets at the rear of the set, two in and one out, but I'm sure I've read somewhere online that the signal couldn't be output.

Does anyone have any experience of such TVs?

Im pretty sure you are able to record Freeview from a IDTV using an external VCR, but i dont have a IDTV myself, so maybe someone who has can give some more info...

I have a Sony IDTV and yes you can record to a VCR using the digital tuner in the TV. If the TV is not switched on you need to leave the TV in standby and use the TV's EPG and/or timer to set the channel. Obviously you cannot watch and record different digital channels simultaneously as you only have the one digital tuner.

Ah cool... thanks for your replies!

I'll let him know!

I think if it was me I would go for separate units, even though I've read the picture is supposed to be better to watch which combined... hey ho!

Thanks again.

Get both - then you can watch one and record another.

I don't like these combined things, lets be honest, there will probably be far better Freeview boxes available in a few years but you will still be lumbered with this. The same goes for TV/DVD players, DVD players / amplifiers etc.

Only if you are very short of space.

I bought a Panasonic IDTV to run alot my sky plus. I can record two sky channels and watch a Freeview channel.

Its less clutter and changes channels fast enough!

As for interactive i do not even use it on sky, so i doubt ill bother on freeview.
