"M.I.A. has said that she believes the CIA is behind the development of sites Google and Facebook.

The 34-year-old warned users to be cautious on the internet, as the government is watching at all times.

"All governments are connected to Google, and all governments can shift their search engines so only what they want you to see comes up… I want kids to be aware of this digital circumstance," she told Nylon.

"Everyone on the Internet is like, 'Oh my God, come and join Facebook!' They’re all so optimistic… and really, everyone is f**king you up behind the screens. And I don't like that. It makes it difficult for me to interact with my fans knowing that. Google and Facebook were developed by the CIA, and when you're on there, you have to know that.""

I bet she believes that the Apollo astronauts never landed on the moon and that Elvis is still alive, too...

Developed by the CIA? No evidence of that. But you can bet intelligence agencies use these sites to data mine all kinds of personal information about people, so in effect, she's right.

You're a mug if you don't thin intelligence services use the internet to keep tabs on people. Google has handed over lots of data about users to US agencies.

As usual, it'll probably be some passing comment which was made and t'media take it out of context.

She's probably right in some aspect. For us to think governments don't use data from the internet would be slightly naive.

Probably not. Google make it hard for governments to get hold of their data, apparently.

MIA was a bit off with this one comment...

"Her mother, Maya claims, got a job as a seamstress, hand-sewing on medals for the royal family. “She worked for the queen for 25 years”"

Yeah. Right. 'Course she did. Small problem with that: medals aren't sewn on.

Woman's a space cadet.
