QVC are having a 'Today's Special Value' on the panny freesat bluray recorder at £394.80 including delivery & installation.

Anyone thinking of getting one of these might just find the price too good to turn down. Best price according to joinfreesat site is from amazon at £599 and that doesn't include installation.

I would imagine this is going to piss off all the Panasonic dealers - dumping stock cheap on QVC is what finished Kenwood off (not that it will happen in this case of course).

Reading up last years reports on the original Verson 1 of this.. i see Lots and lots of problems... re pause etc..
One could almost believe that it was the same base as the Humax
It has a Blue disc recorder so who buys blue discs?
Last issue could not augment any drives extra on the USBs and only 5ooG drive..
Now it it were on Freeview I'd buy to augment the Humax as it does do DVD RAMs

I've order one from QVC - great value as it also includes installation of satellite dish. Had noticed the newer model, think main difference is the addition of DLNA server. Other specification look similiar.

To justify it to myself I see it as -

100 pounds covers install of satellite dish. Making the actual Panasonic DMR850 costing £294 which includes blu-ray player/recorder and 500gb harddisc recorder. this is all in one box aswell.

Any idea if the Dish Installer will use twin cables from the dish so that the two channels can recorded at the same time?

Be aware that although the new unit supports DLNA the facility doesn't allow for streaming of audio files i.e. mp3 or wma.

As it's a twin tuner PVR that would be a requirement as a normal installation.

The reason that it is reduced is that there are a lot of new models coming out in a few weeks time. QVC just bought the old stock.

If they had been worth having Richer Sounds would have bought them up, as they buy most Panasonic end of line stuff.

Overall though I would say that it’s a pretty good deal.

I recevied this from QVC on thursday, and the installation team aren't starting to install the dish until 14 June, and my date is 17 June, so I'm going to be unable to use it for over a fortnight. I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep it or not - we'll see what performance is like when it's been set up. As it is, I can't use my sky+ box simultaneously so, hopefully, the engineer will facilitate this.
The machine itself is everything I want; blu-ray, 500g HDD recorder, and freesat. The price is excellent and, even though a new model is coming out imminently, I don't want to pay that much for a machine that does pretty much the same as this one.
I just think QVC have been misleading viewers about it; the installers told me that people bought it after being told they would have it in time for the world cup which, obviously, they won't! So I'm sure there are a lot of disgruntled customers out there.
One thing I did find was it was slow to switch between functions and screens. But for this price, it's acceptable. It's all about prices; if you don't mind paying £300 more just to get the latest machine, fine. But why pay more when you can get a machine which performs the same functions for less?

Your lucky you got your's last week. I rang the date I got my letter (Wed) and was told by Euro Aerials that the items were being despatched first and then installation had to be arranged. Rang QVC to complain as this was contrary to their letter but was confirmed correct. Read in 2 other forums that people who had ordered had also received their's so rang Euro Aerials again. Now told that delivery and installation will be 13th. So much for the promise of being available for the World Cup which starts 11th. Ironically item should have been returned by 10th for 30 day money back guarantee according to invoice. QVC don't know what they are doing, as per usual.

The DMR-BS850 is slow at changing functions but is a stable and reliable GUI system (have the BS-750 too). Its EPG and functions are easy to use. Only downside is the current lack of i-Player functionality. If you can live with the slightly slow response, the GUI and stability of the product is one which I am sure you will be very happy with.

I've noticed on the panasonic website that there are two promotion running currently which should be valid for the DMR-BS850. They are Blu-ray starter kit which contains some blank blu-ray disks AND 3 Blu-ray movies to claim.

For blu-ray movies - follow link and print the pdf claim form.

Nice find! How are new owners of the DMR-BS850 finding their product? No i-player as yet though, which is disappointing.

I was suprised in how quick the free blu-rays and blank discs took to arrive. It only took panasonic a week and half from me sending off claim forms to get discs sent back. Well done panasonic.

Concerning previous Question - I'm finding the DMR850 o.k to use although as mentioned elsewhere it is slow at moving through menu options. Recorded to hardrive easy enough - now I've got some blank blu-rays will try and see how easy it is to archive programs.

I would have liked somehow to merge other sat channel list with freesats channel list so could access with typing just number rather than having to change input. But imagine this is a restriction of freesat. Supposed could just have all freesat channels in my other sat channel list.

Anyway, I'm quite happy with my purchase especially for the price.

You get 2x 25gb BD-R; 2x 25gb BD-RE and also a free 1966 World Cup DVD. Worth it for the cost of the BD-R and BD-RE alone!

We had this fitted on friday.
Using a Freeview Panasonic TV.

Maybe a daft question but is there anyway to record Freeview with this 'Freesat recorder'?
Cheers.

I think it will depend on the Panasonic TV you are using. Some of them do output via Scart from either AV1 or AV2 so that Freeview can be direct recorded. Unfortunately without knowing the model number etc, it's hard to say - check your user manual or alternatively post the model number and someone may just be able to advise.
