Ring, ring?

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the main thread but I haven't had time to go through all the posts yet.

After the Doctor spends a moment urging Amy to remember Rory and we have the flashback sequence, the two of them are thrown aside and land on the floor. Amy's mood bounces back to normal following the distraction, and when she sees herself on the hill there's only a flicker within her that something is missing.

But, going back to when she's distracted and falls sideways in the Tardis, above and beyond her and the Doctor I'm pretty damn sure I saw a little red box...the engagement ring that Rory took back to the Tardis for safe keeping at the beginning of episode eight. The ring bought by the man who now is supposed never to have existed. What's the deal?

I have a few theories on this but was wondering what everyone else thought.

Is there really anybody out there who doesn't think he's going to be back in two or possibly three episodes time?

If so you're wrong!

Surely the ring should not exist
But it does, presumably shielded by the TARDIS
Sooooo.... If it is brought out of the tardis would it still exist ? or maybe it might

Lol@Charlie.

Yes I'm sure that Rory will be back...I'd warmed to him slightly but I still thought it was time for him to go and this was perhaps the only feasible way of seeing him of for a few episodes without losing Amy too. My best guess is the ring was protected because it was inside the TARDIS, and so immune to being erased just as the clerics/soldiers were immune to erasure from Amy's memory because she met them outside of her time having travelled in the TARDIS herself.

This one got a good vote from me in the other thread anyway, but there are a hundred tiny details now that look like either mistakes or obvious clues...it would just be nice if the mistakes were subtle clues because they could all be tied together very elegantly in the finale.

The finale is they go on a very long walk with their one Ring and throw it in the Crack. Which is in a mountain. Trouble is the more they wear the ring the more it turns them all selfish and bad. Or something like that. I've got loads of original ideas like that.

The precious...

The Doc would just throw The Precious into the Crack to rid Amy of Rory forever. He would make Amy change accent and die her hair blonde, thus forming Rose Mark.2.

On a less joking note, is it possible that the Engagement Ring Box is

the puzzle box opening from the inside that is referred to in Moffat's synopsis for the finale? Or could said box be the TARDIS? Maybe the TARDIS is the Pandorica!

Now there's a point with the puzzle box...a bit SJA where the Trickster erased people from history...but they're gonna have to be careful using that device in Dr Who with all the ramifications it has and all the gaping plot errors it could leave. Unless they're not errors, they're obvious spaces which someone should be filling, was filling and...

Hum, gotta think about this one.

Have just looked at the iPlayer version and it is very clear that when Amy and the Doctor are shaken to the floor in the tardis at the end, the doctor ends up looking at the ring in the red box which has fallen on the floor right in front of him. Amy doesn't see it but the doctor seems to realise its significance. They get up when Amy says the mine is going to blow - but I couldn't see if the doctor picked the ring up and pocketed it.

I'm sure that the ring will be a way back for Amy to start remembering Rory. Also, it might be a bit tricky for the doctor to take Amy back to her bedroom since there is a wedding gown hanging up. Might be a bit difficult to explain that one away.

The wedding dress, not having been protected by the TARDIS, will most likely have disappeared seeing as there is no planned wedding to someone who never existed.

I think the clue was way before in the show. The Doctor mentions that this moment is not a fix point in time and the results could change the future. He mentions about time taking a new path. The crack could be two time lines colliding and the Tardis being a machine that could travel between time and space is the reason behind it. Amy is a big part of it all and I guess the reasons are made clear now. The ring will open the end.
The ring has to play a big role, simply due to the wedding date being the same date the final show is shown on. It could possibly be that Amy's wedding is a fixed point in time contradicting what the Doctor believes. Therefore cracking time. I do think the crack itself will start eating away through time on a larger scale and that the only possibly way of stopping it is to go back to the beginning (Which leads back to young Amy)

Yes, in Harry Potter. The Ressurection Ring is one of the Deathly Hallows.

It's the Resurrection Stone in Harry Potter...though admittedly it was hidden in a ring.

Easy ......

Rory & Amy on the hillside is one alternative reality, one where Rory no longer exists (leaving just Amy on the hillside).

Rory & the wedding ring is another alternative reality, one where Rory does exist \(i.e. the box proves that Rory is alive in another reality).

So either the current reality (Amy & the Doc in the Tardis) will interact with that alternate reality, or there will be some attempt by the Doc to rewrite time by manipulating events.

Rory never actually said how much the ring cost, or where he got it from, did he?

I wondered if he got it a long time ago, or it belonged to someone else (Amy's parents?).

The long time ago theory comes from the date on his badge in TEH.

How old is the ring, what memories/information does it hold?

I thought the whole point was that you don't exist or you've never exist, but certain events you've been part of still happen, albeit in a different way. For example River really shouldn't have been sent on that mission seeing as the original Angel never existed because it fell into the crack yet she was still there because the event still happens perhaps in a different way. (I think)
