However both found new partners in the 'Human' Doctor and Martha, and seem to be happy with their lot there.

Way too cheesy and I don't agree that the box would now contain a paradox.
cheesy was never a barrier to Doctor Who plots - and if a ring bought by someone who never existed is not a paradox, I don't know what is!
