iPod Touch Apps

My girlfriend is thinking of buying a new iPod Touch and wants to get some apps (mainly games) for it.

Obviously for social network apps and what not you have to be online just to get on them. Is this true for app games (such as Bejeweled 2, etc) from the iTunes store?

Also, how are games generally on the iPod Touch? Is it worth spending money on them?

You don't have to be online to play most of the games and apps, except apps that rely on the Internet like the social networking ones as you say.

There are many free or 'lite' versions of apps which don't cost anything. So you can try these before buying full versions in manta cases, and many of the full versions are quite cheap these days.

You don't need to be online to play games, its mostly news and Facebook/Twitter type apps that don't work unless you're online. I could recommend loads of games, some of the free ones are just as good as the paid ones
Ipod touch games are great, I'm always playing with mine nearly every day! Great in boring lectures

Thanks for you input.

Also, she is torn between the 8GB and the 32GB. I know there is a similar thread, but I seriously doubt she's going to need more than 8GB. She had only just filled her 4GB iPod Nano.

Is this 8GB from Currys better performance wise than this 32GB, also on Currys? I've heard that the 8GB are 2nd generation and the 32GB is a 3rd generation (which is supposed to be 50% faster). Would this make a huge difference? She would only be using it to listen to music, play a few games and browse the Internet.

get the 32gb. Better value & got the capacity to accommodate if her needs change once she discovers how much she can do with it

Woah, Angry Birds has an amazing number and also proportion of good reviews. I'll have to give that a look tomorrow as until now I'd dismissed it as probably being yet another novelty app.

Angry Birds is very addictive in one session, but tbh I can't see myself going back to it as it is way too repetitive. Unless the game changes later, catapulting birds towards structures level after level will soon become dull.

A game I'd recommend is Tower Madness (a free ad-supported but fully-functional version is available, though the non ad-supported version has also been temporarily free on some occasions). It's your usual Tower Defence style game of which there are so many on the AppStore, but it's the best of them I've seen. Some people like Plants vs Zombies, but Tower Madness is so much better in almost every way.
