Immersion - Pendulum
WHY has nobody made a thread on this yet, I've looked back 7 pages and not one mention.
Anyway, who else loves it? Huge improvement on In Silico, and I actually think it's as good as if not better than Hold Your Colour. Highlights are The Vulture, Salt In The Wounds, Witchcraft, The Island (Part 1), Crush and Watercolour. |

I was thinking of making a thread on this too
![]() Anyway it's an AMAZING album, their best yet imo. When I first heard Watercolour I worried that Pendulum might be running out of ideas (even though I love the song), but thankfully there was nothing to worry about. They've taken the best elements of all their previous work and used many different styles and genres to create a near-masterpiece. It's that good. There isn't really any weak songs. It's an exhilarating listen from start to finish and never lets up for a single moment. It's going to be one of the albums of the year for sure! |

Absolutely loved "Hold Your Colour", but I felt that "In Silico" was a massive let down. Have never really got into that album at all. Plus all the singles are now starting to sound very similar. I result I'm not overly keen on getting the new album

Its defintely one of my favourite albums this year. I absolutely love watercolor (its getting the airplay it deserves) and every thing else. The island (p1 and p2) are the only letdown tracks, but apart from that - its a great album!!

Pendulum should come with a warning of "Not for drum 'n' bass purists or snobs". Seriously. It doesn't surprise me that Immersion has got a mixed reception amongst critics, but some of them are so pretentious and talk so much bollocks you have to laugh sometimes. They just don't know how to enjoy music. The fact that the album has got near-unanimous praise from fans should tell you something.
Simply, if you have an ear for massive tunes, and are open to drum 'n' bass (and similar styles on some songs) with crossover appeal, then buy Immersion without a moment's hesitation! |

Couldn't agree more. I posted about it on a different forum, and I get an earful about how it's not "real" drum 'n' bass, how only underground drum 'n' bass is good, how Pendulum are too mainstream etc.
Anyway...as my facebook status said when i first got this album - ITS SICK!!! Can't wait to hear it live!! |

Brought it yesterday.
I like it. My Bf who is more of a pendulum fan than me, he hates it. |

I saw them at Sonisphere, not a band I have really looked into much before, but they certainly rocked the crowd and I am now the proud owner of all their albums so definately converted here.

Im a drum n bass head and for me there new album doesnt really sound that great! most of the tunes sound the same, the drums are the same, the screechy synths are the same. I wish they would go back to how they were with Hold Your Colour because in my opinion that has been their best album I can safely say I can listen to all the tracks on their first album. In Silico i can only listen to about two of them and the rest just doesnt really grab me as they all sound similar.
In my eyes they sold out! I think there trying so hard to sound like The Prodigy, and I think the latter is the better due to the fact that they morph into different styles of music. Look at when they started they were a rave act with a few hits in the charts and their album was a rush of energy. The came their second album which became more experimental fusing together rock and dance music and so on, they reinvent themselves everytime and are not boring. Pendulum started off so well as a drum n bass act with lots of variety in the tracks then they got sloppy and seem to bang out tracks that are similar to there other ones. Maybe their running out of ideas? thats whats turned us drum n bass heads off them due to the fact they just have seemed to have formed themselves into a rock band rather than a drum n bass outfit. Thats my take on it anyway, you can all flame me if you like but just my opinion |

Simply, if you have an ear for massive tunes, and are open to drum 'n' bass (and similar styles on some songs) with crossover appeal, then buy Immersion without a moment's hesitation! However. I do think that the progression that Pendulum have made from Drum and Bass producers who use rock elements to band who use drum and bass elements hasn't helped their music. Nothing on the new record had the spark and excitment of their more early records, for me personally. I just didn't hear anything that got me excited and more importantly nothing that made me want to dance. As the poster before said they have morpherd into a rock band, and there is nothing wrong with being a rock band, I don't particularly look at it as selling out, I just think they were better at being a drum and bass act than they are at being a rock act. |
