As someone who lives in a poor Freeview area ('Freeview Lite') able to receive about half of the Freeview channels, it is not a clear-cut choice between Freesat and BT Visionne has a greater variety of channels and the other has better on-demand content. Is there any chance that BT Vision would ever offer a satellite option, combining the Freesat channels with the BT Vision EPG and on-demand content?

I think this could be a really popular combination. Orange in France and (I think) Canal+ offer different modes of reception so it has been done elsewhere.

I'd be another customer for BTVision with Freesat...though I can't see it coming anytime soon. I've just come back to Vision from Sky, last time I enquired about a freesat version but there were no plans. I haven't heard any rumours either....but we can hope

I agree. A Freesat version would be excellent. I'm actually having a dish installed next weekend and have just ordered a Humax PVR. Resisted this for a long time (was hoping BT would eventually offer this) but decided not delay further. Freeview HD isn't coming to my region until 2012 and that feels like a long time. Will run both boxes side by side. Definitely don't want to leave OnDemand behind but I know the likelihood is that BTV will get used a lot less because all the Series Link recorded shows (mostly BBC1 and ITV1 anyway) will undoubtedly now get recorded on the Humax.

Thanks for the info....what does that mean for existing subscribers who want to upgrade...what do they typically charge?

well tbh at the moment ppl with the old silver box who want to upgate to the black one dont get an option unless you buy the box out right or you shut down your vision account and set up a new one, as if you were a new customer, even in cot (customer options team) they cant offer a box to retain a customer. so i am assuming it will be the same with the new freeview hd version (although we haven't been given a price structure yet)

so as a current customer u will be offered cheaper rentals but not the new box.

to be fair between the old silver box and the new black box it is understandable to a point, as there is not that much difference to warrant giving out a free upgrade, but if the new box is going to be freeview hd compatable, then that is quite an upgrade, and can see a lot of current users wanting it, so would be pretty silly of bt to say you cant have it unless you pay us a lot of money, when new subscribers would get it free, maybe we should get charged a small fee but not the cost of the box itself, or is bt who need subscribers going to alienate the 350,000 subscribers it has

My remote died and I got a new one from BT but as its only black avaliable I now have a silver box with a black remote. It kinda looks silly considering all my equipment is black. and theres this silver box looking out of place.

can anyone tell me if the black BT box is taller than the silver?
