Silurians re-awakening in 1000 years?

Okay, forgive me if my maths is off, or if this was mentioned in the dialog and I missed it:

The Doctor asks the boss Silurian to set his cryogenic alarm clock for a thousand years, meaning that his people would reawaken in 3020. The Beast Below was set in the year 3295, at which point the whale was said to have been travelling for 300 years (I think?) Certainly the solar flares supposedly started in the 2800s and Starship UK didn't appear to be heading home yet.

So, basically, the Doc has left the Silurians to wake up in the middle of an inhospitable, sun-ravaged dead world. How nice for them. Thanks, monkeys!

Yes, but it'll be a nice surprise for humanity when they eventually get home after The Sontaran Experiment and find huge Silurian cities everywhere.

Well I suppose it'll resolve the problem of them having to share the planet with the 'apes'

Yeah, it's going to end up like Cold Blood in reverse - the apes rising up from their exile to take back their world.

Oh, sure, the monkeys will have a religious fervour for sharing the newly bio-engineered world with the lizards, why wouldn't they? They're getting the better deal. Maybe the Doc should have instilled the same thoughts in the Silurians.

In an extended final scene, after realising the fate of the TARDIS, he goes inside ... I'd like to see Eleven think over this adventure while operating the controls...suddenly flicking his head up in horror realising this very error...

Wouldn't a cold blooded race actually quite like a sun-ravaged world? Geckos spend all day sitting on rocks baking in the sun!

Great spot! I'm sure it's not an accident and the earth at that time will be more hospitable for the reptiles. I expect this will be revisited.

The Silurians story was interesting as the male Silurians were seen as decent and the female ones were callous and cruel, esp the military commander.

well the door has been left very wide open for a silurian return at some later date.

Maybe he assumes they'll have a 100 year snooze switch.

Not in the least callous and cruel, but charged with the duty of protecting their race at all costs - the female of the species is always deadlier than the male: humanity just kids itself this isn't the case so actually, the story followed nature's path to the letter.

I'd imagine that long before the thousand years were up we (homo sapiens) would have plundered the place while the Silurians slept - taking all their technology and everything down to the scales on their backs...Silurian steaks would become a regular addition to the barbeque and every girl with fashion sense would be wearing Silurian skin boots and hats with matching handbags...and the hole where they used to live will finally become just another place to dump tons and tons of rubbish.

Those two Silurian sisters were right - we ARE vermin!

Man, that would be one hell of a depressing episode. The Doctor remembers Nasreen asking him to check up on them. And finds what you said. Last scene: Doctor sighs, picks up the console room phone: "Hello? Daleks? Doctor here. You can come and invade earth if you like. No, I won't be helping out this time. Good luck."

and if the silurians woke up early, their militant wing still being a bit miffed, and CAUSED THE SOLAR FLARES to get those ruddy apes off the world???

WHAT THEN I ASK YOU???????????????????

I was just talking about this to my kids. Perhaps the Silurians will stay underground. Or perhaps their technology will enable them to repair the world. Of course given the places they were offered were all deserts perhaps the Earth will be perfect for them then - shame abou Nasreen though! If the Silurians do inherit the Earth then the Apes will get a shock if/when they return.

Not necessarily these Silurians who are in the finale, if they are at all.

Seconded! What a cool bit of Holmesian deduction young chap! I too reckon this will be revisited, and it'll all end in tears I tell you.

I hadn't considered the date clash with "The Beast Below" but I did think that surely now we can't meet the Silurians again until the 1000 years is up if the voice over was truly speaking from 1000 years in the future. Of course, we could just meet other tribes or even some of the original branch or the Sea Devils maybe. Either that or the voice over wasn't the full story:

"And so it came to pass 1000 years ago that the Doctor averted war on Earth and sent us back into hibernation until mankind and the Silurian people were ready to work together towards a new future..."

"...apart from that one time the Twelfth Doctor and his companion Sally Sparrow stumbled upon us again and we had a massive battle against UNIT and Torchwood Six. But better not to mention that just yet. How do I switch this thing off again?"

There could be a story set in a thousand years where the Doctor pops by to see how things transpired. Would give Meera Syal a chance to reprise her role.
