Some people do tend to get slightly religious about them, where they think everything can be known about someone by their personality type, but that's not really the case. People vary very widely in the distribution of the various traits as well. There are degrees of introversion and extroversion, for instance. Some people can have tendencies of both at times. The same goes for the other MB categories.
I find it helpful because it helps me to know myself a little better. In my case, I'm pretty solid in all of the categories on mine (INFP), and the description sounds a lot like me. It's not a hard-fast thing, though. People are different regardless of their Myers-Briggs and other personality type tests. I know lots of people with the same MBTI scores who are still very different. It's just a useful tool for a lot of people to be able to discover more about their own personal strengths and weaknesses.
