You are absolutely correct. My mistake when filling in the games, with Rob and Liam being right net to one another alphabetically I got their games round the wrong way. So Liam has not done an Old Firm game this season.

With the British football season over for another year (other than one round of international matches to go, of course), I thought it would be a good time to provide some facts and stats from talkSPORT's coverage of the 2010/11 campaign much in the same way Stuart S. has done for BBC Radio Scotland. 2010/11 was talkSPORT's biggest season yet, with the station carrying 93 commentaries over the past ten months.

Below is a list of all the presenting, commentary and pitchside reporting details from those matches, which included 64 Premier League commentaries, 24 Champions League games and five other fixtures - the Carling Cup Final, all three Football League Play-Off Finals and the March friendly international between Brazil and Scotland.

To lay down some qualifications before I post, I'm counting talkSPORT's partial coverage of the League Two Play-Off Final from Saturday and their coverage of other “clashing” commentaries - including their broadcast of the last ten minutes of Sporting Braga v Arsenal in the Champions League group stage on a night when their main focus was Chelsea v MSK Zilina.

However, among this number I've not included any of the details we knew from planned talkSPORT commentary games that were duly postponed, Ian Danter and Alan Brazil's partial first half off-tube commentary on the Liverpool v Everton game in January when the line to Anfield was lost sporadically or any of Tottenham's Champions League games where Andy Clarke was provided off-air commentaries for audio montages to be used later on. Sorry Andy.

Here goes then...

Presenters:

Adrian Durham - 33 games
Mark Saggers - 31
Alan Brazil - 24
Ian Danter - 3
Danny Kelly - 2

Commentators:

Sam Matterface - 75
Nigel Pearson - 13
Ian Danter - 4
John Anderson - 1

Co-commentators:

Stan Collymore - 73
Alvin Martin - 9
Ray Parlour - 3
Ray Houghton - 2
Micky Quinn - 2
Martin Allen - 1
Alan Brazil - 1
Bobby Gould - 1
Peter Taylor - 1

Pitchside Reporters:

Dom McGuinness - 21
Ian Abrahams - 13
Graham Courtney - 8
Mike Bovill - 6
Graham Beecroft - 5
Ian Danter - 5
Andrew McKenna - 4
Geoff Peters - 4
Andy Clarke - 2
Simon Humphreys - 2
Kev Lawrence - 2
Nigel Pearson - 2
Dave Rowe - 2
Roger Hughes - 1
Tony Incenzo - 1
Peter Martin - 1
John Temple - 1

14 commentary games did not have pitchside reporters, 11 of these being Champions League away fixtures for the English sides (the only away tie in the Champions League game for an English team where talkSPORT had a pitchside reporter present was, naturally, Rangers v Manchester United with Peter Martin covering touchline activities), Wolves v Aston Villa from September and West Brom v Newcastle United from December in the Premier League and the League Two Play-Off Final. For those keeping count, that brings the total up to 94 as Ian Abrahams and Ian Danter were pitchside at the Carling Cup Final.

Sam and Stan naturally enjoyed a dominance over the commentary games, although it was nice to see the Play-Off Finals shared between three different commentators and three different co-commentators.

It's also interesting to see the number of live games Adrian Durham presented slightly surpassed that of Mark Saggers. I guess his stewardship of the Play-Off Finals and sitting in for Alan Brazil on Sunday Exclusive on a few occasions helped push him slightly above Saggers.

Their coverage of the five finals they covered was as follows:

Carling Cup Final - Adrian Durham presented alongside Neil Warnock in the studio, Sam Matterface and Stan Collymore commentated with Ian Abrahams and Ian Danter at pitchside.

Champions League Final - Mark Saggers presented alongside Stan Collymore at Wembley, Sam Matterface and Stan Collymore commentated with Dom McGuinness at pitchside and Andy Goldstein with the fans.

Championship Play-Off Final - Adrian Durham presented alongside Ray Houghton at Wembley, Nigel Pearson and Stan Collymore commentated with Roger Hughes at pitchside.

League One Play-Off Final - Adrian Durham presented alongside Peter Taylor at Wembley, Sam Matterface and Peter Taylor commentated with Kev Lawrence at pitchside and Ian Abrahams with the fans.

League Two Play-Off Final - Adrian Durham presented alongside John Cross in the studio, Ian Danter and Alvin Martin did partial commentary with Ian Abrahams with the fans.

For the FA Cup Final, Adrian Durham presented alongside Ray Parlour in the studio, Sam Matterface and Stan Collymore reported from Wembley and Ian Abrahams was with the fans. Geoff Peters reported on the Scottish Cup Final, Scottish League Cup Final and the Europa League Final. Andy Clarke updated listeners on the FA Community Shield, Ian Abrahams covered the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final and Dom McGuinness reported on the Conference Premier Play-Off Final.

Great work Stuart and The Difference, I'll try and do something similar for 5 Live after England's match on Saturday which I guess will be their last commentary of the season.

Unless you count the U21s?

Indeed. With it mentioned on here that talkSPORT might be doing commentaries on the UEFA Under-21 Championships, I was toying with the idea of whether or not to wait until that is over to collate the full facts and stats from their coverage this season.

In the end I decided to go after the Championship Play-Off Final as to me at least, the football year starts with the pre-season friendlies and concludes after the Play-Off Final weekend during the bank holiday weekend at the end of May (although having said that I'd count this round of full internationals as part of the 2010/11 campaign as well). I'll probably include any Under-21 commentators in next year's figures I think, if I'm in a position to do them of course.

Anyway, thanks for the compliment Shaun, I'm glad you found the stats interesting. Looking forward to the 5 Live information.

The domestic season is over as we know. UEFA's season ends at the final of the U21's and the new one starts 6 days later with European qualifiers!

Sorry. Of course you are right. CB hosted the tv coverage. Cornelius Lysaght and John Hunt were with EO at Epsom for Five Live.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to say this so apologies if not, but I would like to congratulate Beacon and BRMB for their coverage of West Brom last season and thank them especially Bomber Brown for making me laugh on more than one occasion, hope the coverage is as good next season,

Notes
- I don’t have the commentator for two Sports Extra matches this season so numbers will be slightly out.
- Green (81 last season) & Ingham (57 last season) very similar numbers to last season.
- Ian Brown, absent from most 0f the 09/10 season, saw an increase in matches but got nowhere near his former level, having previously been doing 60+ commentaries a season.
- Everybody else saw a reduction in their number of commentaries.
- With the exception of Green, Ingham and Motson everyone attended plenty of matches as a reporter.
- Brotherton (37 TV matches), Motson (30), Fletcher (3), Murray (3), Adderley (2), Sewell (2), McNamara (1) and Oatley (1) all commentated for television this season.
- Bruce-Ball (Golf), Brotherton (Cycling), Fletcher (NFL), McNamara (Rugby Union), Murray (Golf), Oates (Rugby League) & Woods (Rugby League) all covered other sports during the season.

Fantastic work Shaun - really interesting to read. Thank you for taking the time to compile all of the details. Most of the commentary numbers read as I was expecting, although I'm quite surprised Dave Woods did a mere single commentary and there was only one other commentator in Ross Fletcher used outside of the 16 regular voices.

Which are the two Sports Extra games you a missing Shaun? I shall try to dig them out from earlier on in the thread if I can. I seem to remember Sports Extra taking a southern BBC local radio commentary on an first or second round FA Cup replay in the first half of the season.

Being a bit cheeky here, perhaps, but would you mind posting the full 40-person list of 5 Live's summarisers?

You bring up a good point, the number of Sport Extra commenataries does not include any local radio simulcasts.

The missing matches are the first half of Man Utd v Blackburn in November (2nd half was on 5 Live) and QPR v Watford in December, neither match is listed in the thread though.

Alistair Bruce Ball was at the Under 21's this afternoon for 5Live

His Twitter revealed that Darren Fletcher, Ian Dennis and Danny Mills are going to Denmark for the tournament. So they are sending 2 of their top commentators. Ian Dennis also does a lot of sports reporting/press conferences etc but does get some big games. He's replaced Mike Ingham really who used to cover the England camp etc.

During the summer, John Murray and Alistair Bruce-Ball will be at the US Open and therefore I also presume at the British Open. (Golf!)

I very much doubt they will do anything with Fulham's EL qualifiers but the SPL starts on the 23rd July so I imagine they'll have some commentaries from that. (No idea why the SPL starts that early, madness!)

Thanks for the info also Shaun, great work, much appreciated
Mark.

I think it was to do with the fixture "chaos" caused in recent years thanks to the weather and Europe.

Basically, there's now more free midweeks to slot in re-arranged games. And yet teams are allowed to postpone one early season game in order to play a friendly. That's madness.

Wow, didn't know about the friendly. Ridiculous.

It was mostly to appease Celtic, who had already agreed to appear in a pre-season tournament despite knowing that the SPL were planning an early start.

Rangers and Hibs have also postponed games, and Dunfermline would be needing one postponed anyway because bizarrely they're in the 1st round of the League Cup despite being promoted and Hamilton, who were relegated, get a bye to R2.

Welcome to the wacky and wonderful world of Scottish Football...

fwiw, even 50 years ago or more the Scottish league started earlier than the English one, though in those days that usually meant "early August" rather than "late August". The 1959/60 Scottish season started on 8th August, and you'd never have got English football that early back then (those were the days when there was little enough overlap that it was actually possible to be a professional footballer/cricketer!). I wonder whether this had anything to do with more mid-season postponements *always* being likely in Scotland?
