What a rotten shame!

Bad mistake by Moz Dee for allowing him to be signed up by another station.

Thanks for the clarification.

I wonder if Moz Dee has a new signing up his sleeve to take Jim Proudfoot's place on Champions League games or if he's planning to promote Nigel Pearson and/or Ian Danter as direct replacement(s).

Maybe John Rawling, Graham Beecroft or John Anderson could be afforded a permanent commentary role now or even Ian Crocker (although he's doubtful as it looks like his commitments with ITV are increasing).

Dants would be my choice. He proved a lot during the World Cup and with Jim leaving it is the perfect opportunity to make him their lead commentator.

I wonder if we'll hear Jim Proudfoot on talkSPORT again. I remember he pretty much completely left the station after their Euro 2004 coverage to concentrate on his Sky Sports work, but returned just in time for World Cup 2006. It'll be interesting if a new voice commentates on the Euro 2012 final for them, or if he's back on talkSPORT in or within three seasons time.

Here is the list of games (there are 26 in all):

Sat 14 Aug - Chelsea v West Brom
Sat 21 Aug - Wigan v Chelsea
Sun 22 Aug - Newcastle v Villa
Sat 28 Aug - Manchester United v West Ham
Sun 29 Aug - Bolton v Birmingham or Sunderland v Man City
Sun 12 Sep - Everton v Manchester United
Sat 18 Sep - Sunderland v Arsenal
Sun 19 Sep - MANCHESTER UNITED v LIVERPOOL
Sun 26 Sep - WOLVES v ASTON VILLA
Sun 3 Oct - Manchester City v Newcastle
Sat 16 Oct - Aston Villa v Chelsea
Sun 17 Oct - EVERTON v LIVERPOOL
Sat 23 Oct - West Ham v Newcastle
Sun 24 Oct - Stoke City v Manchester United
Sat 30 Oct - MANCHESTER UNITED v SPURS
Sun 31 Oct - ASTON VILLA v BIRMINGHAM CITY
Sun 7 Nov - Arsenal v Newcastle
Tue 9 Nov - Spurs v Sunderland
Wed 10 Nov - MANCHESTER CITY v MANCHESTER UNITED
Sat 13 Nov - Stoke City v Liverpool
Sun 14 Nov - Everton v Arsenal
Sat 20 Nov - Liverpool v West Ham
Sun 21 Nov - ARSENAL v SPURS
Sun 28 Nov - Newcastle v Chelsea
Sun 12 Dec - Wolves v Birmingham
Sun 19 Dec - ALBION v WOLVES
”

talkSPORT have revamped their website today (thanks to the previous poster for alerting me to this ), and their new homepage includes a Live Football Commentaries page.

The new commentaries page lists all of the station's Premier League commentaries between August and November, and while this list mostly matches the one Stan Collymore posted on Twitter a few weeks ago, there are one or two differences.

The talkSPORT website has the following games down as commentaries - Bolton v Birmingham on Sunday 29th August rather than there being a question mark over that game or Sunderland v Manchester City, Birmingham City v Everton rather than Manchester City v Newcastle United on Sunday 3th October and Bolton v Liverpool rather than Aston Villa v Birmingham City on Sunday 31st October.

Four Sunday games - Everton v Manchester United (12/09), Stoke v Manchester United (24/10), Arsenal v Newcastle (7/11) and Arsenal v Tottenham (21/11) - are asterisked as being "matches subject to change".

There is no mention of the two midweek games or the two December games Stan has listed on his Twitter feed as being commentary games.

I guess we shall see which list in the more accurate come the new season!

5 Live's Premier League commentary on the opening day of the season at 15:00 is Wigan v Blackpool. Therefore, I would wager Absolute Radio's commentary will be one of Aston Villa v West Ham or Blackburn v Everton. My money would be on the former.

5Live will be dissappointed with Blackpool having to go away in their first game but it's still the best option of the 3pm KO's.

Villa vs West Ham must be next best with it being Avram Grant's first game in charge and the transfer story right now being about a Villa player

5 Live are also providing commentary on Leeds United's first two matches in the Championship against Derby County and Nottingham Forest (respectively). The first match kicks off at 5:15 on August 7th, and the second at 12:35 on August 15th. They will also have commentary on Sheffield United's opening match.

I was researching the commentary arrangements for West Yorkshire yesterday. Bradford City's matches will be broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds AM and DAB, and the Radio Leeds commentary will replace the Pulse Sport commentary on Bradford City's website. I think Derm Tanner has a good relationship with the online listeners so I'm sure they will be pleased. Bradford City's matches will be previewed separately from Huddersfield Town and Leeds United's matches on Radio Leeds.

Interestingly, no mention of the Pulse or BCB on Bradford City's website that I noticed.

Doesn't look like Five Live are doing commentary on Rabotnicki v Liverpool (Reserves/Youth team) tomorrow but judging off the interviews I've just heard on BBC Merseyside, Dave Woods is out there for Five Live whilst Ian Kennedy will be providing commentary from Merseyside.

Braga were asking too much for the rights.

BBC Merseyside - Host: Gary Flintoff
Rabotnički v Liverpool: Ian Kennedy (Updates Only at Half/Full Time from stadium)
(Halifax v Widnes Rugby League Updates: Johnny Lawless via telephone)

The station says "rights issues" prevents them from doing commentary despite having a man out there Live in the stadium. Radio City haven't bothered going at all.
Bit farcical this situation. UEFA should sort the rights themselves in my view rather than let the host club sell them themselves.

Seems "The Quay" in Portsmouth will not be carrying Pompey commentaries this season. The station was owned by Portsmouth FC but like the club fell in to administration.

Earlier this month it was purchased out of administration and is set to be renamed as "The Breeze" on Saturday but they stated on Thursday that.....

Quote:
“Following a lengthy negotiation process with Portsmouth Football Club, Celador Radio Broadcasting has announced that it has been unable to reach an agreement with the club for the acquisition of the local radio broadcasting rights.

Chairman, Paul Smith, commented, “It is deeply regrettable that we have been unable to reach a satisfactory conclusion to our negotiations to allow the continued and uninterrupted broadcasting of the football commentaries and associated programming for the benefit of the fans.

“Unfortunately the investment to acquire the rights and the associated technical and staffing costs of providing the live coverage plus weekday programming far outweighs any income likely to be generated from the initiative.

“Whilst we would have been prepared to break even or to even to make a small loss on this side of the business in order to meet the fans’ expectations, the deal offered to us is just not commercially viable.”

The decision brings to an end of a decade of coverage by The Quay, although Pompey commentaries will still be provided by BBC Radio Solent.

Jim Proudfoot's made an interesting comment on Twitter this morning. Asked whether Absolute would be providing commentary of FA Cup and European matches in addition to their Premier League coverage, he said:

"Dont have FAC rights but the long term plan is to expand the portfolio So watch this space!"

If anyone is doubting what 4-4-2 posted upthread, JP himself has confirmed on Twitter that he's finished with talkSPORT.

Quote:
“Yes that's me out of talkSPORT now. 11 good years but the time was right.”

Judging by Jim's most recent Tweet, the bidding process for rights to FA Cup and England matches from 2012/13 onwards could be VERY interesting.

Does it? In the 2000-2001 season, Ocean FM definitely had the rights to Portsmouth matches. I know that because once their commentary was broadcast on what ever Pennine FM was called back then. Did the Quay and Radio Solent also broadcast the matches at that time?
