Did I say last 25 minutes - make that last 10

I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Cardiff City fans at Glanford Park today, who showed the 'fans' at the Millennium stadium how respecting a minutes silence should be observed.

Yeah pretty much. It operates with the reporters at each match shouting out whenever anything happens. It's hosted by Richard Gordon who provides updates from grounds not covered. Generally it's quite light hearted with discussions going off into random directions and regularly has e-mails and text messages read out. All in all not a particularly "serious" journalistic format but gives great real-time updates.

They've stopped doing Chelsea commentaries then?

It seems so. Two seasons ago, Real Radio London did the commentaries, last season it was BBC London.
Presently, neither Arsenal nor Chelsea have commentaries broadcast on BBC London.

Over the past decade, the local radio rights holders to Chelsea's domestic games have been as follows:

1990s-2000/01 - Capital Gold London
2001/02-2004/05 - talkSPORT (games broadcast on 1089am in the South-East only)
2005/06 - talkSPORT and Smooth FM London
2006/07 - Smooth FM London, with rights transferring to Real Radio DAB in April when the former station became Smooth Radio
2007/08 - Real Radio London and DAB
2008/09-2009/10 - BBC London 94.9

Also, Chelsea's own DAB station Big Blue Radio broadcast commentary on matches between 2001/02 and 2006/07. During this time, they provided Smooth FM with their commentaries in a similar way to how Yorkshire Radio provides Leeds United commentaries to Minster FM currently.

Have Chelsea restarted in-house commentaries this season?

How time flies when you get older. I forgot that BBC London had the rights for two years.
The Difference

I can't remember what happened two hours ago (as evidenced in the Football Commentators thread in the Broadcasting section last night), so don't feel too worried about forgetting something that happened two years ago.

The list I posted above demonstrates just how Chelsea's local radio commentaries have bounced from one station to the next after talkSPORT ended their five season foray into regional opt-out commentaries in 2006.

I believe GMG Radio signed a non-exclusive three season deal for Smooth FM to do Chelsea commentaries in 2005, but in March 2007 they rebranded and reformatted Smooth and stuck the final year of their deal on sister station Real Radio.

I would have assumed BBC London had a three season deal with Chelsea as well, but I guess they went in with the option of renewing rights on a yearly basis, as talkSPORT did towards the end of their regional commentary run (IIRC they had three season deals for Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham games between 2001/02 and 2003/04, then brought regional rights to Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Blackburn, Everton and Manchester City in 2004/05, before just renewing Arsenal and Chelsea rights in 2005/06).

Have Arsenal even had a local radio commentary partner since talkSPORT stopped doing their domestic commentaries on 1089am in the South-East?
