Co-incidently just finished re-watching "Children of Earth".
Have to say Cap'n Jack seemed pretty adamant he was moving on at the end, and it was also quite clear that Torchwood was finished as an entity.

If it were to come back the logical thing to do would be to have Gwen join UNIT and team up with Martha&Micky before they go off "freelancing" I suppose...

Much as I loved Captain Jack and thought Children of Earth was possibly RTD's greatest achievement to date I would not be sad if it didnt come back. Too many shows carry on whether or not they have stories to tell and end up limping to an undignified demise. Torchwood ended on the highest of highs and came full circle with Jack zooming off back into the stars, Dont see where there is left for it to go.

But I am counting the days until we get to see Barrowman and Smith on screen together...now THAT will be something worth waiting for. Lets just pray they do it.

Considering that Matts doctor is a little bit more wreckless and chaotic than Tennants you can just imagine the sparks that will fly when Captain Jack hops aboard the Tardis again. A whole new dynamic.

I'm just rewatching the first season, hugely flawed yet still enjoyable - anyone got any favourite/least favourite bits or episodes?

Is JB going to be in the Matt Smith series?

Not in this series, but Moffet didn't rule out the possibility for the future.

Which isn't surprising, because who wrote his debut episodes, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances? Steven Moffet.

Shrike, Gwen would currently be incapacitated because she recently had a baby. In the show and in real life!

If they don't bring back Torchwood then it makes the whole "rift" thing pretty pointless or does it ?

I kinda hope they dont bring it back..... C of E was amazing, but with the hub and over half the team gone, i dont think it would be torchwood anymore.
They should quite while they're ahead.
I would love to see some more of Jack in Doctor Who though, i loved him in DW more than TW when he was all moody :L

No, the rift was introduced in the 2005 series, long before Torchwood. It still serves a purpose in that the Doctor periodically returns to it to power up the TARDIS.

so whats the major difference between the rift in cardiff and the cracks? shouldnt the doc be worried about the rift as well then since torchwood are no more?

i know that the rift in cardiff doesnt remove people from time and existance (that we know of!) but wouldnt the rift be the opposite of the cracks then? since people, aliens n objects come through the rift into our world, who's to say that the cracks arent sending people through to the other side of the crack, wherever the other side of the crack is? does this make any sense?

The rift does remove people from their time, but not from their existance. There was a epsoide in the 2nd series about a young boy being taken by the rift, but the Mum still remembered him

The rift and the crack are 2 seperate things. The rift is like a fault line like with tectonic plates on Earth. The cracks are like a big hole in the universe - or just imagine holes in the ground in random places on Earth.

The rift has always been there, the cracks are new and different.

Since they've destroyed the Hub, wiped out most of the team, sidelined Gwen (not before time!) and Jack certainly seemed to be past caring about anything on Earth, I'm not sure how they could bring it back without completely starting again, and for me without Jack it ain't Torchwood.

The Rift in Cardiff is a wormhole, and the other end moves around in space. Sure the cracks allow things to pass through, but if you get sent into the fire at the end of the universe, you're not going to last long.
