O2 landline service
Hi all, I currently have a BT line on an ancient tariff that they've just decided to get rid of. Was on Light User, about £12 per quarter! Now its gone up to £45 as BT say my 'old tariff no longer exists'.
I've got Virgin broadband which seems to go up in cost by the odd £1 here and there every few months. I hardly use the landline, and have got an O2 mobile so was thinking of getting their landline and broadband deal, think its £17pm for O2 customers. Can anyone suggest whether this is a good idea or not? Is the O2 lanldine clear and always available, and is their broadband always fast and ok? Many thanks. |

I haven't heard anything bad about the O2 home phone service yet (although it's just come on the market so time will tell) and I've only heard and experienced good things about their LLU broadband.
I say go for it - I will be as soon as my current contract runs out - £9.50 line rental you can't go wrong really. |

I've just had my first bill for O2 home phone and it was about £26 for a month and a half plus I have bolt ons. My last bill with BT was £84 for the same amount of usage. I've had no problems with the land line what so ever as for broadband I'm on the access package. I've been on O2 broadband for over a year and there's been no problems with that either. I did notice it slowed down about a month ago. I phoned O2 and I was told BT were carrying work out and by the end of May things should pick up again and it has.

Years ago a friend of mine decided to go on that BT Light User tarriff but he then decided to get BB........ but you weren't allowed BB and the Light User tarriff.
I rang up 02 to enquire about phone and internet but I didn't have a landline and they couldn't organize that. So I'd have to get a landline put in and then move to them. I decided to go with ID Net who can arrange for a line to be installed and give phone and internet as one package. They are dearer than some but the info I've read about them has been good. |

EleanorRigby, yeah I couldn't get BB with that light user scheme either. I'm so glad to be rid of BT.
Gemmaovwales, good to read you're happy with your O2 service, hoping I get the same! The O2 service starts 21June and I've already recieved the router box and had numeous texts and emails from O2 updating me on BB speeds etc, dates of commencement etc. |

I switched my landline to O2 recently and was amazed to find that they charge for voicemail. OK, it's only £1 a month I think but still... surely nowadays it's a basic part of a phone service not an optional extra.

1571 is not free on BT - you have to make two chargeable calls per month or you get charged £1 for it.
Personally I have an Answering Machine phone, so have no need for 1571. So I had no problem moving to O2. The only bolt-on I have added is the Caller ID. Even with this it is still cheaper than BT (£11.25 per month for O2 vs. £15.78 / £12.79* for BT) for Evening & Weekend use only. * 12 month renewable contract offer |
