In its day, this phone was the best on the market.

http://welectronics.com/gsm/nokia_3310.JPG

It was a design and sales winner. Yet, it more or less died as soon as mobile technology became more advanced.

Instead of enhancing the model to match market demands, a design winner was ditched.

It's the equivalent of Apple releasing an entirely different-looking iPhone, which doesn't do as well - but continuing the trend anyway.

If Nokia was to release a modern day version of this phone, built more sterdier materials, complete with a larger touch-screen, WIFI, 8mpx camera etc. etc. would you be interested?

By any chance do you follow Nokia on Twitter or Facebook? As the other day they were asking the same question about the 3210.

Nope, I've never used Twitter or followed Nokia before.

The 3210 was just as nice though and I very nearly mentioned that in place of the 3310.

I just assumed the 3310 was a later model and more people would be familiar with that.

This is down to personal preference but I most certainly would not buy a mobile that looked like that - an updated 3310 might be technically proficient but it looks well ugly so I'd steer clear of it!

But the 3310 has Xpress-on covers, which means it can be black or blue if you wanted. Even England flag designs were available.

Never had a 3310. Had a 3330. Had more games and apparently a slightly better browser.

5110 similar - never liked it, had the much better 6130.

The main reasons those would still be a usable phone is battery life - thats the one area that hasn't been improved on in the slightest over the past few years.

I had several Nokias. Didn't have a 3310, which by the way didn't have a wap browser. I had the 3330 models, basically the same but with wap. Very easy to use and fast at texting. Some nice little hack codes were available to.

All round good model and pretty basic handset. But everyone (or the marketers) seems to think of iPhones and such now.

I'll stick with my nokia smartphone for now.

That's on par with my iPhone then

You should be able to find a new battery on ebay if you want.

My mum had a 3210 until recently, the battey would be ok until she made or took a call, at which point it would die - but she still wouldn't part with it - eventually she accepted that it was useless and the Nokia 1600 was similar (except the colour screen was confusing) and took that out of the box having recieved it for christmas about 2 years ago and never used it!!

Nokia still make very basic, simple phones though they can be a little hard to find in some places, they are readily available in most Tesco and Asda stores.

They should bring back the 8210. It was so small. Phones got bigger after that and still haven't managed to shrink down to the size of the 8210.

I think that was on purpose, they were just too small for many people.

You do still find the 3310 and the 3330 available as re-refurbished models. Spare batteries are also available.

In a weird coincidence Nokia have just announced two new ultra-basic handsets. The C1 which is €30 Sim Free which does calls, texts, radio and torch. With a standby battery life of 6 weeks and switchable between two SIMs, its designed for people travelling abroad in remote areas.
The C2 is similar, but has dual-SIM standby, one of which is hot-swappable.

I think the 8210 went too far in the miniaturisation.

We originally had a Nokia 5110 for our works on-call mobile, someone managed to get an 8210 in to replace it. It either got very rapidly lost, or possibly stolen by an envious colleague, so we went back to the 5110

I had a 3330 which was a really good phone for what it was at the time, I did have a 3410 shortly after but it just didn't feel the same even though the joined up key pad was a novelty.

Ditto! I think the 3310 was one of the first phones I had, I am sure I had a 3210 mainly because I remember being very impressed with the vibrate function (I could be wrong but I think it was one of the first to have it). I loved the phone, very stable, very rugged - proven to me when its went through the washing machine after I left it in my jeans, a day to dry out and bingo, back up and running, I don't think I could say the same for my HTC or the iPhone.

You could do so much with old nokias, change font, size, menu images etc. A bit of help from a pc program of cause.

Very easy to fix if they got water damaged.
3210 has a vibrate function, i believe it was standard in USA at the time, but over here you had to add a vibrate module, and activate the vibrate menu option using some pc program.

Also, with the 3330 you could replace the screen/keypad with a 3410 screen/keypad change the firmware to a Japanese 3350 and it was very similar to 3410 but with different games.

Put all that in (especially the touch screen) and I can't think it could resemble the 3310 in any meaningful way.

I've had, and still have some among the 5110, 3210, 3310, Sagem MW 3020, 3410, 3510i, t720i, 7210i, Samsung E700, Sony Ericsson k700i, Motorola L6, Sony Ericsson k750i, w300i, Nokia n91, Nokia n95, HTC Touch (x2), and current - HTC Magic. Very likely missed a few.

Funnily enough, I miss the 5110 the most, then 3210, then k700i.
