Has music been ruined by the rise of young female singers
lady gaga
briteny beyonce pixie lott kei$ha christina Rhianna Leona the list is endless! Everywhere you go there seems to be some new heavily PR backed female singer shoved down the public's throat.all of them are the same - they sell sex, act raunchy and their lyrics are a complete joke! They have practically killed music as producers are looking to cash on them and shun any good or potential band. |

Britney, Christina and Beyonce have been around for over a decade so blame can't really be put on their shoulders. There was still plenty alternative to their sound in the late 90s/early00s.

Well I have just been thinking recently listening to the likes of Diana Vickers for one.really really like this singer. To me she could knock socks off Alexandra Burke. I have always been a fan of black female singers but as time has gone on they all sound the same these days.
Loved the girl who won the Eurovision. She sounded like a mixture of Lily Allan and Amy Winehouse. I'm really enjoying the not being racist here but the young white female singers. I just feelt hat there has been an overkill of black singers and groups for too long now. Its time for a change. |

Serious question, how is it any different when they did the exact same thing with boy bands and that whole era?

I do agree on the over use of the sex appeal in music videos, its getting rather annoying. |

I think its made it harder for rock bands like The Futureheads etc who were dropped by their record labels like they were yesterday's news when the whole Lilly Allen/Sandie Thom/Adele brigade came to town.

No I don't think it necessarily has. Yes, there are more contemporary female artists today but they all make good music. Nothing is going to change with the whole selling of these artists either as they simply are very marketable compared to other acts and musicians. I appreciate all kinds of music and I just think at this very moment, the rise of young female singers will dominate the music scene for quite a while until the indie/rock bands come into force again. The music scene will always be this circle of genre-power and I'm glad everyone gets their chance.

Are you sitting comfortably behind sandbags, Mr Wendal?
See what you did. "I'm not racist. I just hate black people."

I always laugh when people think the phrase "I'm not being racist but..." will make whatever they say afterwards 'un-racist' when it's still actually racist.

I don't like Britney's music but a lot of people do. I think it's just a matter of opinion, in mine, music can't be ruined. It depends on what kind of music people like and there will never be a time where everyone likes the same kind of music as you do so there's no point in arguing about it. |

They are a dream come true for any pervert. Writhing, barely dressed (in some cases scarily young ) females on prime time TV. Most of them will have backed up this "singing career" with spreads in various Lads Mags.
This lot have nothing to do with music. |

Young, "different" girls are the *in* thing right now.
Diana, Marina, Ellie, Ke$ha, GaGa, Miley, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Christina. Either dress weirdly, act weirdly, have weird songs or sing weirdly. Each have their own individual style but really they're all in the same bracket. Alicia Keys, Shakira, Beyonce and Leona Lewis are probably the only young females right now who are the different ones because they're not doing electropop and are having success with the niche they're comfortable in. EDIT - Actually, Shakira and Leona Lewis kinda just had a bad era. So i'd guess it's only Alicia and Beyonce who are doing well without electropop/weird images. |

Errm... I think you need to learn where to put capital letters in a sentence and how to spell before you talk about female singers that have supposedly ruined music.

Oh wait, someone from the text generation correcting my grammar? oh dear! Not to digress from the topic but you have no clue on both accounts. I cant be bothered to reason with someone who loves Pixie lott and Miley cyrus. Here's the deal apple pie, log off from this site, take a few years going through youtube and the great music we had in the 20th century and them come back to this thread

i love each of them to different degrees really, Britney,Christina and Rihanna in particular i love the most!
i like the rest, Ke$ha is really hip and fun, Burkey is great, Beyonce and Gaga have huge fanbases and i like some of their songs and own an album by both. music CANNOT BE RUINED music is life! you also have Florence & the Machine,Lily Allen,Alicia Keys,Little Boots,P!nk,VV Brown,Paloma Faith,Amy Winehouse,Missy Elliott to name some more female talent to come over the past 10 years or so where some i prefer over others but i love there are so many great female musicians and artists out there kicking arse!!! Madonna,Annie lennox,Stevie Nicks,Kate Bush and Debbie Harry(Blondie) are legendary performers and artists who definately brought GIRL POWER and had a connection towards mainstream audiences, Madonna thankfully is on top of her game still making great music and breaking records all the time, Debbie Harry still sells out to crowds (smaller than in the day but still!) and kate Bush sold 3 million of an album with next to no promotion in 2005. so it just shows you some Male performers i cannot stand though, they do milk it on solely sex appeal sometimes! i mean over the last decade i think Justin Timberlake is the only MAJOR male popstar to come out of the last decade to also have some talent flare through his work, Tinie Tempah also has a good future ahead i am sure he is a grower in the music industry for sure. but it's mainly groups that have better male performers (aside from JLS of course! ) i dont think it's down to the genders, it's down to the overall accessability of the music and genre themselves.but music is life and it makes the people come together!! |

![]() Good luck with your taste. You know the difference between 20th century music and 21st century music? Its that you could still sing and play the 20th century songs when you are 80 without feeling out of place - while if you sing or play the current trash when are 50 never mind 80, you'd look like a weirdo just singing to it. I trust you understand what I mean. Sure we have a rise of female musicians, they would be gone and forgotten forever because their music is NOT timeless. Form is temporary, class is permanent |

Who do you think influenced Elvis Presley when he was grwing up. They did'nt have Girls Aloud then!!!! |

The "text generation" person you are crudely referring to is completely right in correcting your grammar albeit off-topic. Wow, how ironic is that
, you have just said everything I have been thinking. Here you go, Mr Wendal! You told me to go and search Youtube for some artists that made music in the 20th century. Now I'm telling you to go and sit down with a dictionary. |

Yep! They pretty much killed rock bands.
do you really believe that girls are 'killing rock'?.. ![]() id suggest rock groups try a bit harder then to come up with something credible, but the vast majority just soundalike retro artists. rock music has to be the biggest ever selling genre, so rock music is the prefered target of business as they are likely to make far more out of oasis, the beatles, the rolling stones, etc etc etc then they are out of pixie flippin lott!!! personally i quite like most of the 'new' girl singers, i prefer their sounds to the old worn out rock or indie (yawn) sounds that these days are tired and worn. |

Facepalm at this thread....
Look, popular music evolves and always had and should do. I'm sure when Elvis and The Beatles first came around there were people much like yourself who claimed that they were "ruining music" seeming as they were massive departures from the norm at the time. If new music and new styles were never introduced we would be stuck with pipe and bongo music. |
