I just don't get The Saturdays

Before I start I want to say I'm not a music snob, I love music from all genre and I believe there is always place for cheesy, sort of bubblegum pop, but I really despise The Saturdays. They seem to get all this media attention but they are totally bland! The music is forgetable and they don't seem to have anything special about them. Think of the Spice Girls, Sugababes, Girls Aloud etc they always had loads of personality. This lot do not, even Atomic Kitten had more about them.

Whoever is managing them is doing a very good I'll give them that, but they look far too groomed and false and why is Frankie the most high profile? She's like the Cheryl Cole of the Saturdays already, getting all the column inches, and the irony is she's not anywhere near as pretty, she's not even the prettiest member of the band! Compare her to Una and you'll see what I mean. She;s also got this silly "funky" hairdo that she obviously copied from Rihanna.

What is their appeal?

They do have a 'not bothered' air to them, but I quite like some of their songs and their voices are very good.

Frankie is gorgeous, even in S Club Juniors she stood out.

But Una and Mollie are much prettier.

Needs a bigger rack for me does Frankie

Una and Mollie though, and maybe Rochelle on the side.

Apart from that they're shit. (apart from Vanessa she's a good singer)

They don't come across as very likeable. They sell alot of singles but very little albums so I can see them being dropped after the next album. They're 2 albums in now and big pop acts should be popular at this stage. Their second album sold sod all. It doesn't look good for them.

Five very attractive girls. However the problem is, is that they're not slutty like Pussycat Dolls and they didn't have a reality TV show for everyone to know them individually so right now they're just "the group who come into the top ten every few months and then drift back out". Frankie is clearly being pushed as the Cheryl of the group with the tabloids and the fact she's on Kids In Glass Houses new single however i'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Vanessa was on Pop Star to Opera Star however was the second eliminated so I don't think the public had a chance to warm to her properly. Frankie and Rochelle were both in S Club 8 but that was years ago and I doubt anyone will remember them.

I think they just need to keep working hard and doing what they're doing now. They CAN sing live (very well), are great dancers, have great personalities and are stunning but they just need that one smash hit for people to recognize them.

Two other people have agreed with me, both of them men. So it looks your outnumbered. I suppose she gets the most media attention because she obviously likes the spotlight a little too much, whilst the other girls prefer to keep themselves to themselves.

As a straight male I wouldn't kick any of them out of bed but Una is definately the hottest.

Really? Not even in their FHM shoot, or the Just Can't Get Enough/Work videos? I mean surely they're one of the sluttiest girl groups out there?

But they do have some good songs to be fair e.g. Up, Issues, Ego, Wordshaker, Flashback, Unofficial and One Shot.

I think they just need to find their niche and connect with the public a bit more. Its like how Girls Aloud found their niche with the Xenomania sound. And Sugababes found their niche by being cooler, singing live and being less manufactured than other girl groups.

Whilst I personally like The Saturdays, theres just nothing unique about them. They don't have a particularly individual sound, they don't write their own stuff, they mime a lot, they dress like your typical girlband, they're not known for having strong personalities or voices. So I can sort of see why some people aren't interested in them.

Oh and Frankie's definitely the hottest.

i agree about the sats, they have no identity, personality, charisma. their songs are ok at best, to date they havnt got a memorable song that everyone knows. tbh i dont think they will either, and being dropped is looming.

frankie has some natural good looks, that was obvious by the time she was in s club 8 (the change from kid to adolescent). i dont like 'products', i dont like cheryl cole, paris hilton, these bimbo 'celebs'. frankie does seem to be heading that way, kids in glass houses, embarassing on 'buzzcocks', that 'door' show in which she redeemed herself after the awul buzzcocks appearance. but im not so sure shes like that, she wouldnt date that guy from mc fly after all! lol... she could easily get herself a top footy player, be a wag, but doesnt seem to be like that. i like her, somewhat reluctantly, but i cannot find a good reason not to.

I like them, their songs are catchy and fun and are great to dance to. Always find their songs effective after Economics lectures (my lecturer rants all the time and is very full of himself) Just my 2 cents.

There's a difference between sexy and slutty. They showed their legs in the videos and had some short clothes on but they weren't rubbing themselves up in a club against some random guys, walking around in just their underwear, dancing provocatively, kissing girls, acting like sluts. They're hot girls, who wouldn't show off skin?

They have no chance of being dropped. Six top ten singles (four well over 200K), sell out tour, platinum album, adverts with Impulse, about to launch their third album this year.

True, they have perform far better than Girls Aloud's first 7 single singles, minus Sound of the underground, I think The saturdays are awesome, there first album is bloodly good, there second wasn't as good but lets hope this new one makes up fior that

But come on, I was only using the term "slutty" because you'd just used it for the Pussycat Dolls. Which is a bit of a double standard anyway, seeing as The Saturdays are even worse than PCD in that respect:

But Girl's Aloud's first 7 singles were released at a time when singles actually made money before the download era. The few Saturdays hits which have sold well wont have made very much once the video cost etc has been taken into account. How much is a single to download from I Tunes etc? I do think the record company is giving them this one last chance with the 3rd album.

FHM shoot and a drunken night out. Girls go about like that all the time after nights out, it's just The Sats have paparazzi taking pictures of them from angles like that which make it worse than it looks.

And the PCD's are far worse than The Sats. Practically every video of PCD's have them in little clothes, dancing provocatively. Even their live performances mirror the videos practically. The Sats show their legs, that's it.

Think its about 79 or 99p on Itunes UK, I'm in Ireland and use the Irish store though so not totally sure on UK prices. I usually pay about €0.99 or €1.29 for a song.

true they probally made more money but the sats still sold more. I think the record company is to blame think about the amount of times and singles from GA that were good enough to probally take worldwide (biology), and up would have been a mega hit, espically around europe and maybe australia. They should now concentrate in getting a worldwide fan instead of bringing out rushed album after rushed album.
