When I was a very little child I remember my Mum and Dad having the following records lying around..

Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I love you
Thompson Twins - Doctor Doctor
Clannad - Harrys Game and Robin Hood theme
Band Aid - Do They Know Its Christmas
Supertramp - Breakfast in America
Some judy tzuke stuff
Lovin' You - Minnie Riperton.

I have a older brother who was really into Pink Floyd, Hendrix and The Doors and Cream and YES, etc..

I suppose I had a good musical upbringing, I am 33 yet my older bro is 56. My dad died about 9 years ago and his favourite group for the last 6-10 years of his life was The Cure. I remember when he watched one of The Cure's videos 'Lullaby' on MTV and from that day was hooked! My dad was 64 when he died. Such a strange journey from Thompson Twins to The Cure.

What records lay about the house when you was a nipper? As I said I am now 33 but people here are older and younger than me.

What lay about the house?

My mum used to listen to Bonnie Tyler, ABBA and the Carpenters....
My dad listened to R.E.M, Oasis and Paul Weller.

No wonder they got divorced.

Reggae eg. The rivers of Babylon
Oasis

And when I was really young my favourite song was 'Would I lie To You' by Charles and Eddy, for years.

From what I remember, my dad had many vinyl records of artists such as Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley.

My mum's record collection varied from acts such as Abba to Madonna. Both my parents had Hindi and Urdu collections from Bollywood films and records from singers such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar.

No, not very far at all.

That was just the music she had when I was growing up, she's gathered even more as the years go by and I have managed to influence her a bit too. It's nice really the memories I have, It's like a wee treasure she has passed down to me, I am doing the same with my kids.

Queen - A Kind Of Magic
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares To You

Those are the 2 that stand out to me from hearing a lot when I was a really young. Everytime I hear the opening of AKOM, those finger clicks just take me right back to me dancing about my living room with a hairbrush pretending to be Freddie Mercury when I was about 5 when my parents were in bed and I would sneak downstairs on my own

Readers Digest's 'Herb Albert and Friends' box set and album of Val Doonican's biggest hits, containing classics like Patrick McGinty's Goat, The Jarvey was a Lepricorn and O'Rafferty's Motor Car (most of them I still remember most of the words to )

Parental units aren't really into music, in case you haven't gueesed

Stevie Wonder - I just called to say I love you.....
I started reading with a growing feeling of despondency...

... and then just to rub salt in my wounds!
I remember as a DJ whether we played a request for Stevie Wonder depended on how pretty the requester was...

... truth was we absolutely detested playing it.
