Want, not need. big difference.

I don't think they care really. Its not as if they will be short of customers for them.

Yup, all of the networks that'll have it (which is looking like all, bar 3) will be able to shift the majority of the first shipments without any problems.

One keyboard warrior who can't tell the difference between want and need won't make a blind bit of difference to them.

So you think there will be plenty of stock to cover pre-orders?

It seems like an excellent offer - more minutes than O2, all the other benefits, uses the O2 network and for only £20 a month for 12 months. Yes you have to pay more for the phone, but its still almost £200 cheaper overall for the cheapest model.”

They haven't said yet but I hope they do.

I'm friends with a girl that works in the o2/iphone dept in Glasgow and she has stated, she will only know any new information the day its released to the public - Apple are obviously keeping this close to there chest - all she could confirm was that people will be able to early upgrade when released much like when Apple released the 3GS version however the only difference was in the past customers had to pay the remaining amount of contract but my friend has confirmed this wont be the case this time and it will be a set price - but she didnt know the amount.

Details of the early upgrade offer (and I use the word offer loosely) are now on the O2 website and it is the speculated £20 per month remaining

Nah I'll downgrade to £10 a month terminate and then go with the cheapest network me thinks

You wont be able to downgrade to £10, the cheapest iPhone tariff is £30.

£20 a month seems reasonable to me as people last year had to pay a min of £30 a month to buy out their contract.

It costs O2 £100s to buy the phones from Apple, they need to make a profit.

Yes I will. I'm not on an iPhone tariff, though I was originally but they let you switch from iPhone to non iPhone tariffs

(cheapest iPhone tariff is also £25 a month on 24 month contracts incidentally)

so lets get this straight I pay of the contract which is gonna cost me £220 then I sign up to a new 18 month contract and pay x amount of money for the new iPhone.

Yeah I was talking about 18 month tariffs and they didn't let me change to a non iPhone tariff when i tried 12 month into my 18 month contract. I had to wait till it was up to move to simplicity.

Yes because you would essentially have to buy yourself out of the previous contract. This is how it works with any network for any phone.

Going by the calculator on the O2 site it seems it would cost me £180 to get out of my remaining contract. Then looking on O2 recycle it seems I can get £173 for my current (soon to be former) phone.

Have I got this right, that I can effectively get out of my old contract for £7 and then sign up to get the new iPhone (on whatever tariff/ handset cost that comes to)?

Must be luck of the draw on who you get when you call then as I managed it 2 months ago no problems

Yeah that's correct, when you buy yourself out of your old contract you can do what you like with the phone. be sure to check all the sites that take old phones such as http://www.mobilephonerecycling.co.uk as they will likely give you more than £173.

No network has come out with prices. O2 have revealed their early upgrade "offer" but that is all

I would rather wait until the end of my contract in a couple of months, then upgrade and flog my 3GS for a profit on ebay. I'm certainly not that desperate that i'll be throwing money away to buy myself out of a contract to get a new iPhone, seems more than a little barmey to me!

Its going to be a very interesting launch this time with more networks involved and it being a must have phone, each network will want the boost of customers. At a guess we might here something tomorrow with it being 2 weeks till launch or after WWDC has finished and apple can concentrate more on the negotiations abroad

OK. So it would cost me £240 to get out of my contract early, but I can get £240 back for my old iPhone 3GS from O2 recycle, so the upgrade costs me - in effect - nothing!

Thats the same as me but is there any charge for the new iPhone? or is just the upgrade fee and thats it.

Thanks for that answer.

Has anyone used O2 recycle before (or any of these other phone trade in companies)? Are they straight up? How do they deal with phones which aren't 'just out of the box' pristine?
