Well Apple has touted their new antenna design as cutting edge but I can't see how they would have developed it without testing what happens when the human body touches it/touches both antennas. It may not be a wide spread problem but in the threads I've looked at there are quite a lot of "same here" posts.

Two questions guys.

1) Is it worth getting insurance on a contract phone (Tesco tomorrow hopefully) considering Apple's reputation and stinginess on replacements.

2) Can I pay with a Maestro card for the contract?

Hmm interesting. It's looks like it's slowly ramping down power when in contact with skin. Not very useful if used without a case...

Chris Pirillo (a tech blogger) was just doing a demo of his early released iPhone and the call didnt drop... so... We'll just have to see if it is just a few faulty phones.

I personally wouldn't I have never had any problems with Apple repairing stuff. In fact I will probably get AppleCare.

Anyone had any luck calling O2 yet?

Was on hold for 45 minutes there and got cut off. Checked their website and it still says only in O2 stores so I don't fancy being on hold that long (and probably longer) and being told no.

I was the same, queued outside my local store for two hours this morning, only to be told they only had 15 in stock. came home and spent 40 mins on the phone to them only for it to be cut off. Just went online at Orange and placed an order. Should receive mines tomorrow morning now. Been with o2 for about 10 years and didn't really want to leave them as I have never had a problem with them before. But they have handled this appalingly.

Well O2's hands are tied by Apple. They only have the stock Apple issues them with. And if you consider how many O2 stores are around the country..

As for the call line, well they're obviously being flooded with people ringing trying to get hold of one at the moment so thats to be expected. Not great I agree but I don't agree they've "handed this appalingly". Not sure what else they could have done.

Well Orange seem to be able to fulfill internet orders at this time to new customers, yet o2 seem incapable of providing enough stock to satisfy their current customers demand. I know Apple dictate stock levels but how o2 have managed this is appaling. I went to a busy o2 shop in a major city centre shopping street where they had left a sign outside their store advertising the phone overnight and asking customers to 'queue here', even though they only had 15 phones in stock. Why do this when you know you are never goig to have enough phone to fulfill demand

I have a massive Tesco up the road so I might try there today to see if they have any. Their tariff is much better than o2s.

Lol yes. I remember the hastle the last time of getting the 3g, took me over a month, constantly checking the Apple website to locate stock near me and driving to stores only to be dissapointed. I was due an upgrade in january but held off as I was hoping to get the new phone at the date of launch.

I missed out on getting a 32GB by a couple of people in the queue this morning. I could have settled for a 16GB which it seems that they had a lot more in stock but I've set myself on the 32GB so it seems like a wait for me.

I don't think it's fair to blame O2, or Apple for that matter, for people not getting their phones today. It's just a clear case of demand outstripping what it is possible to supply.

However I will blame O2 if they handle the next stage badly. I really should be able to register and pre-order a 32GB phone when stock becomes available. They say that they won't take orders online or over the phone until 'the end of July at the earliest' and yet the early upgrade offer runs out on July 24th. If they don't find a way of making that work then I won't be able to upgrade for 10 months, and when I do it certainly won't be with O2.

A month is nothing! If you've never had any previos problems with them, it seems a bit silly to jump ship just because you can't show off with your new iPhone for a few weeks. I'm with t-mobile ans my upgrade isn't due until august, but I'm not considerijg buying my contract out or buying a sim free phone just to have my hands on it now.

I ordered mine online with Vodafone this morning. Looks like they have run out now.

To make things worse I dropped my phone last night and cracked the screen. I have insurance so didn't know if I should claim or just get the iphone 4.

After speaking to vodafone this morning it turns out I'm on a 12 month contract on my iphone - no idea how thats possible as it doesn't appear as an option anywhere but I was told I can upgrade to the new iphone in October. Makes sense to do it that way round. The additional bonus is that they don't do the 8gb 3G any more so they are sending me a white 16gb 3GS by 10am tomorrow for no extra charge.

Can't complain about that! It's saved me quite a bit of money, especially as I only got my phone in january!

I know what you are saying but I was really annoyed with 02 today. If they had only allowed online or tele sales of the phone I would not have bothered too much. But to spend 2 hours queuing ( first time I have ever queued for anything on day of launch btw) when there was insufficient stock was galling. At least the other providers allowed online and tele sales. Less disapointing when stock runs out and you are sitting in your house, but to be left standing on the street like that was pretty disheartening. Came home tried calling them, phone answered after 40 mins. I say hello and the phone line goes dead. pop onto orange website and lo and behold they still show stock and have my order processed in 5 mins.

3 tariffs: http://www.three.co.uk/Phones/iPhone

Edit: Shame they don't mention the length of the contracts!

Edit again: They are 24 months are mentioned on the pdf, which has comparisons to other networks.
