Anyone sorted insurance for their iPhone 4 not through the network?

O2 are looking £15 a month and the excesses are something like £75 (1st claim), £100 (2nd claim), £125 (3rd claim).

I had a look online and found this site (mobilephoneinsurancedirect.com) and they seem to be doing insurance for £5.79 a month with no excess (iPhone 4 16GB). Anyone have any experience of these folk? Seems too good to be true.

Also, they are the first sponsored link on Google if you search for "iphone 4 insurance". I know this doesn't guarantee they aren't dodgy, but it makes it less likely!

Ive went for the tried and tested method of Vodafone Cover me insurance.
£12.99 a month £50 excess -suits me and I know its genuine should anything happen.

Wow that's expensive, surly IRS cheaper to just use your house insurance.

I know what you're saying, the networks quality of cover is hard to beat. I just feel O2's prices are far too much. I've paid the insurance to them for nearly 10 years and made 2 claims. Surely they could take that into account like car cover does.

Just called o2 customer services on 08448090202 & done the early upgrade offer over the phone & it's getting delivered in 1-2 working days. Just hope they count Saturday & Sunday as I'm working this weekend so I will be!!!!

2 things though, does the phone come with the micro sim? The woman on the phone said I need to go to a store or order online but I went online & it says it comes with it? Also, any good covers available just now? Ordered a screen protector & saw you can get something called a bumper?

The issue with the bumpers is they cost £30 including p&p which is a tad expesive for what it is, should be £10 I think.

Got insurance via my RBS gold account, £1000 worth of cover and a £25 excess. £13 a month, but I already had it for the included Green Flag & holiday insurance, only slight prob is cover doesnt start till 2 weeks after registration, so I need to be super careful for another week ;p

It sounds long and complicated but once youve done it a couple of times it's a breeze. ”

Bugger, this doesn't seem to be an option anymore. You must have an old version of itunes as the 'Create AAC Version' is no longer in the right click menu of options, only 'Create MP3 Version' (even though it is already an MP3!!!).

Really disappointed the only option seems to be to have to buy the song through itunes and then pay again to convert it to a ringtone.

Unless anyone knows how to get this working on the latest version of itunes.

The issue with the bumpers is that you would not need them if the bloody phone worked properly in the first place

Just went through this frustration myself.
Google "iringer'', worked for me with latest version of itunes.

If I got an iPhone I would definitly get a bumper anyway - nothing to do with signal - just because you really need it for protection.

£30 for a bumper is a complete rip off though - surely there are unofficial ones on eBay ?

Are you sure they have not been automatically converted to aac (*.m4a) version during the initial import to iTunes. If so just make a copy, trim it down to under 30 sec, and rename the copy to *.m4r ?

It works for me using the latest version of iTunes... (9.2.0.61).

Whether I select an AAC (.m4a) track or an MP3 track, I have the option to "Create AAC Version" in both the right-click menu & the Advanced menu.

Also, one thing to remember (once you get it to work) is to go back to the original track in your iTunes libray, & get rid of the time selection. I forgot that once, & then was rather confused when the original track only played for 30 seconds

On a Mac they removed the "convert to AAC" from the right click menu.

Instead you have to click the song you want to convert, then go up to "Advanced" , in the "file, edit, view" bar and select "Convert to AAC".

£25 is the RRP. But yeah, it is high.

Branded third-party cases tend to cost around the same.

I'm sure you can get cheap ones on eBay, although I haven't looked.

The Bumper doesn't do much for protection, though. All it does is cover the outer edge / antenna band. The front & back are still exposed. Still, the only reason I had a full case on my 3GS/3G was to protect the awful plastic back, & the iPhone 4 doesn't have that issue.

I don't use any cases , never have. . .I avoid setting mine down on a table. If it's not in my pocket, then it's in my hand.

Saying that. . .there is dust behind my screen due to me putting it in my pocket but I've heard super secret rumors that Apple Stores will remove the glass and take the dust out for free if you cause a fuss.

iPhone insurance is only useful if you lose the phone - and even then, it's probably covered on the home insurance.

For £146.29, Apple will replace any broken iPhone 4, no matter how much time has passed and no matter what state the phone's in.

Apple will also replace an iPhone for free if it develops a fault within the first year.

Quote:
“O2 are looking £15 a month and the excesses are something like £75 (1st claim), £100 (2nd claim), £125 (3rd claim).”

Say you smash the iPhone's screen on the 7th month.

£15 x 7 = £107 - that's what you would have paid to o2 for the insurance. Add the £75 excess... that's £182 in total. You will then go on to pay more after that!

With Apple, you would have paid nothing - just £146.29 for the out of warranty service. That's it, no further bill.

Why do you want one if you get an iPhone 4 then?

I had a few specks behind the glass on my 3GS. They were only noticeable though if you looked for them, in the correct light, at the correct angle.

Apparently, the way the iPhone 4 screen is made means it should be much less susceptible to getting dust underneath.

The way iPhones have been built since I've owned one cases that covered the phone were obtrusive and got in the way and affected the feel while using it.

Due to this ones flat back , a simple bumper would protect it from drops while leaving the back and front completely exposed , which is what I like.

Fair enough

I wouldn't mind getting a pouch / slip-case some time, basically to stop dust etc. getting on it when in my pocket.

Or maybe an Otterbox... covers the sides like my Bumper, but also covers the back & gives shock/drop/dust protection.

I have iTunes 9.2.0.61 which is the latest version and it is there as a right click option. What version are you running?
