It's got a LOT to live up to after Children of Earth.

Conversely, any old garbage written on the back of a beer mat would live up to series 1 or 2.

Wonder if the writers will be given the same freedom as on Starz's Spartacus.

Yeah....John Barrowman and the cast stark naked in the arena

I think they are going the right way with this.

10 episodes is the best move. If they did 13, there is more concern for the budget but with 10 they can afford to be more ambitious. If they did 5 episodes again in a similar vain to CoE, I feel that almost any story would cheapen the 'Event' appeal of CoE (although I am probably in the minority with this one).

Introducing a US aspect certainly broadens appeal (and budget? I don't know how this all works exactly). The show stands a better chance of being renewed in the future so long as the writers pull something good out of the bag. With RTD having said he had already conceived ideas last year, I feel no need to worry on this front.

An international event may be most rivetting. Doctor Who certainly seems to have slimmed down on its number of global events (and rightfully so!) so the impact here could be very impressive. With international filming, this could also be very visually appealing and epic.

My biggest question is to how closely it is still going to tie in with Doctor Who.

My second biggest question is how long before James Marsters reprises his role as John Hart permanently. He has the US and British appeal!

If it's a co-production, I doubt the BBC charter will allow it to continue to have links with Who. I'm feeling uneasy about this.

i think it's a much better match up for TW than Fox would have been!

I'm not worried about it being more international, the reality is it cut it's ties to Cardiff in CoE. There is no real reason why TW should be based there at this point, and it actually makes more sense for TW to be an international agency in any case.

The only drawback is waiting till 2011, but not surprising given they are only announcing it now.

I always had faith it would be back, it was always just a question of when.

it didn't have much in the way of links with who in the first place, other than a few references. Don't see how that makes the slightest bit of difference.

Shame it's not based in Cardiff anymore, I liked that setup, although I guess it makes sense what with the destruction of the Hub. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it, and seeing Eve and John back

My only concern with US involvement would be look what happened with Doctor Who but I'm sure the mistakes of 1996 won't be repeated. It's not clear from the BBC report whether it's a serial like CoE or a series.

While I am quietly pleased that it is to return, like you ting I am slightly apprehensive at what the result may be. I sincerely hope it isn't too Americanised. I sincerely hope it isn't yet another story that has the Americans taking over the control of everything and saving the world.

The original Torchwood had a great British crew doing very well without American dominance!

The yank army officer in CofE really got on my tits!

From what they say it's to be internationally focused, not US focused.

But you are on record as having hated "Torchwood" series 1 & 2 and only came round to "liking" COE after everyone else liked it and you realised it wasn't exclusively written by RTD...so what do you have to feel uneasy about?

I wonder if maybe the BBC couldn't afford to commission the series by themselves and thats why they've gone into partnership with this American company to do it.

It makes sense. They've cut costs on Doctor Who.

I am just happy to have Captain Jack back - a naked CJH wandering through the snow a la Roman soldiers in Spartacus well

Great news and has already been mentioned, ten episodes, liking the sound of that. Five was way too short for me even if it was shown over consecutive nights.

I gave a huge squeal when I read the title, excitement and joy filled my heart.
I'm very happy it's 10 episodes, I'd prefer 13 again to be honest, but I'm taking what I can get.

But then I read more; abroad aspect isn't appealing to me. A huge part of Torchwood's appeal and charm, for me, was it was centered in Cardiff-- and Cardiff alone. A feeling which felt exposed and somewhat destroyed with the London aspect of CoE. Somehow though, it worked.. maybe because it was minor when you think about it, I don't know?
But I get the feeling that the abroad aspect is more crucial to the series, and it completely unnerves me.
I'm hoping I'm wrong, and it is, like a friend suggested, was just means of getting Jack back to Torchwood, and a small element at the very beginning of the series.

I'm just wishing we still had the old gang; Ianto, Tosh and Owen. Any word if Kai Owen is coming back? Or James Marsters?

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps that goes some way to explain your rather intemperate postings recently.
