Oh chin up muttley! Won't be long until the Christmas Countdown begins and another Xmas Who special.

Indeed the election was exciting but I was totally knackered!
Part of me kept wishing we could have the Protest or Forget system used on the Beast Below! It would have kept my stress levels at bay!

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I'd definitely like to see James Marsters back in it.

yes I would too.

I wonder if there is any prospect of Russell Tovey appearing at some point too.

More here, indicating it will have a predominantly us based aspect, and that it will be telling one principal story

Thanks for the link.

The bit about the larger budget sounds good...

They don't actually say it will "predominately" be US based, they say alot of it will be but that it will also be set in the UK and other places.

I'm pleased it will be based on one principle story. That is what made CoE special I think. I am quite encouraged by a lot of what RTD and Chris Albrecht say there actually.

Sounds all good to me so far. I just hope Gwen's twonk of a husband isn't in it.

JB for Spartacus sounds just fine to me btw.

You're misrepresenting me, John. Yes, I was less than impressed with the first two series, but I liked COE despite Davies' involvement, and I was clear on that from the beginning.

By reading an above link, I have become more intrigued rather than apprehensive.

Children of Earth was amazing but it was clear by the end that the show had to move in a different direction due to the loss of Torchwood HQ and Ianto.

I will of course wait until it's screened before i make judgement on it. I am hopeful while at the same time slightly pessimistic.

I am however, pleased it is coming back and will wait for its return to our screens with great enthusiasm.

I was happy to read it at the start, then slowly lost my happiness when I saw that the US was involved and even more when I read that it will be set in America.

How much will be there and how little here? I know that not much information has been released, but what I loved about Torchwood was that it was set over here. With what happened at the end of CoE, there was bound to be a big change if it came back. Just didnt think that it would be so big that it would now be out of Britain.

I share your concerns.
I realise though, that due to continuing BBC cuts, this was probably the only way Torchwood could be brought back, at least for the time being.

What concerns me though, is that if it isn't well received in the States (and let's face it, an American broadcast company is going to be far more interested in what the US audience thinks rather than a British audience) then this could well be the make or break series.

Hopefully though, RTD will be on top form. He hasn't usually let us down!

Kai Owen has not yet been confirmed and nothing has been said on James Marsters apart from fan desires. Although both have said that they would return at the drop of a hat, so to speak.

yeah we know very little about this yet really, be interesting to see how it all pans out.

I can't see Rhys not being in it though, tbh. PC Andy probably less likely for obvious reasons!

Yeah, it would be far easier to write out PC Andy as he has sort of had his moment (of which I was pleased with....most heroic in CoE Day 5). I dont see him fitting in with a grander scale plot, as I was suprised they managed to pull it off in CoE

I wouldn't be too worried about that. Torchwood is airing on STARZ which is one of the premium movie channels (like HBO, SHOWTIME, CINEMAX, etc).

But the thing about STARZ (and why I'm feeling positive about Torchwood's success there) is that they're desperately trying to compete with HBO & SHOWTIME's exclusive TV series lineup. American cable subscribers are more interested in exclusive TV shows - not films. "True Blood" & "Dexter" became so successful on HBO & SHOWTIME that its customer base grew. This hasn't gone unnoticed at STARZ . They want a piece of the "viewer pie" and have been quite aggressive in trying to build & create their own lineup of exclusive TV shows in hopes of enticing new customers to subscribe to their channel as well.

Torchwood stands a good chance of being successful because cable channels are far more patient than network TV which want results "now"!

don't have the time to read all posts but am really happy about this! at least with it playing on Starz (a good channel!) I don't have to put up with the commericals and editing BBC America does!!! woo hoo!!!

It'll have a bigger budget than Doctor Who.

Yeah, not too sure myself. I hope BBC crew and writers are allowed to retain the lead role in it and Starz are just providing the funding, a la Sky1 with Battlestar Galactica, so they can get exclusive rights to the series in the US.

I'm sure there's other threads about it, but I'm surprised that the BBC have had any problem recommissioning TW after the success they had with CoE.

I'm definitely apprehensive about this, if only because after comprehensively destroying Jack and the Cardiff Torchwood, (literally destroyed the Hub and all the personnel except the one about to get a 'normal' life with a baby) I'm not sure that if we get a wise-cracking happy-to-save-the-world-again Jack back from wherever he ran off to it would ring true anyway. And the Who connection which it's based on could go under. Oh well, we can only wait and see.

Indeed, his best moment is long gone:

PC Andy: CSI Cardiff, I'd like to see that, they'd be measuring the velocity of a kebab.

Yes please! I thought his character had lots of potential, and James Marsters is a great actor. I would definitely be happy if he came back.

I'm really pleased that it's one principle story, I thought the format worked well in COE, I just hope they can sustain it. It's double amount of episodes of COE, and I thought the story was tight and paced well.

I'm kind of excited about this

Well I am going to be postive on this. I have quite like Spartacus so I can only judge Starz on that but they dont seem scared to the boundaries. Great news, until proven different
