Love this quote from RTD

Quote:
“It's not going to be 'Lost' and take 20 years to find out what's going on. It's going to have a most remarkable conclusion after 10 episodes.”

Although the Hollywood Reporter interview has:

"Albrecht: Well at the end of "Children of Earth," Torchwood was destroyed, so when we pick up in our world the need for Torchwood arises again. A lot of this story takes place in the U.S. as well with several characters that are in the U.S. intelligence forces and end up teaming up with Gwen and Captain Jack to deal with the situation at hand. 10 episodes, oh joy!!

but not on consecutive nights, please BBC -
BBC - are you there, are you listening?

Not on consecutive nights, but please include a late-night catch up for those of us who DO NOT HAVE ACCESS to i-player.

(sorry for the shouting, but BBC has been promising for years to widen access to i-player, but has done absolutely nothing about it.)

I don't think that they will do a 'Consecutive Night' thing like with CoE. Ten episodes is a big dedication for the viewer....heck, 5 episodes was for some

They also seem to want to do a simulcast in the UK and the USA, so I imagine they would keep the episodes apart by a week each...... I think it would fit in nicely on a Friday night

”

Except that the whole concept of TW was that it wasn't UNIT, it was deliberately political!

At least it isn't a network, US networks have been known to kill series halfway through. You have to wonder whether they've really thought this through though, because they will invite comparisons with the X-Files and CSI.

Coproductions aren't that new a concept, some have been OK, although ITV managed to kill the new Avengers by moving it to canada.

I've never really got into Torchwood although I did watch
C of E. Given that most of the characters are now dead and Captain Jack had good reason to leave earth, I'm surprised that it's continuing. I can't say that I care. I can see it becoming entirely an American product.

You mean, like iPlayer on Freeview+ boxes (coming), iPlayer on Freesat (here)?

Or iPlayer on certain mobile phones?

Doctor Who was a co-production from 2005-2009 but was still allowed to have links with Sarah Jane Adventures. So I wouldn't worry on that score.

I'm not particularly bothered about references to the other shows, I feel that that was an exclusive link to RTD Who and RTD Torchwood. Doctor Who has now moved on from that. As long as continuity doesn't become questionable.....a global event in Torchwood should not contradict a global event in Who or Sarah Jane

But the thing about STARZ (and why I'm feeling positive about Torchwood's success there) is that they're desperately trying to compete with HBO & SHOWTIME's exclusive TV series lineup. American cable subscribers are more interested in exclusive TV shows - not films. "True Blood" & "Dexter" became so successful on HBO & SHOWTIME that its customer base grew. This hasn't gone unnoticed at STARZ . They want a piece of the "viewer pie" and have been quite aggressive in trying to build & create their own lineup of exclusive TV shows in hopes of enticing new customers to subscribe to their channel as well.

Torchwood stands a good chance of being successful because cable channels are far more patient than network TV which want results "now"!”

Thanks for this information - I'd never heard of STARZ before.

I like Gwen and although I was really shocked at Ianto dying, I'd choose Gwen over him as a character to keep.

Adding my voice to wanting James Marsters back for a visit or ten.

So I read that John and Eve are signed up for this but the ending of COE, Jack was leaving. So he comes back I am guessing. And Gwen and the baby and Rhys? Oh I hope Andy is part of Torchwood now. I loved him!

Thats quite a little sense of entitlement you've got there.

Whenever I find myself at a loss to understand people's postings in the "Can't find my love for Amy Pond" thread I just remind myself of my intense dislike of Gwen

Im thrilled its back..I really worried it was axed for good tbh.
also glad they are moving out and about and not stuck in cardiff (as nice as the place is)

TW with the right Vision might have been born from DW but can find its own place and path without having to rely on DW.

Yes, right you are. CoE proved that Torchwood is capable of brilliant things, and there were only a few references to the main show on a couple of the days. I liked the camera message left by Gwen talking about how The Doctor must look at this world and turn away in shame sometimes. Powerful stuff.

I think we should start a James Marsters petition. Is it worthy of a thread of its own? Surely so if enough of us want it!!!!! Make our voices heard!!!!!

Maybe Jack being in the USA will kick off the plot?

Anyone know whether the episodes will be 45/50 or 60 minutes?

I don't know, but if it's partly made by an American company and to be shown on American TV, it's more than likely to be 45mins so they fit in ads.
