That's what I was worried about, because it would restrict scheduling options for the BBC.

Not really, no more than half the stuff they show at 50minutes. Isn't the current DW series about 45 minutes long?

Does this Starz Network show commercials? I may be wrongly recalling this, so apologies in advance, but I may remember someone mentioning that they don't run ad-breaks mid programme.

It seems unlikely imho, but I cannot remember if this is what soemone said or whether those damned voices in my head are becoming a pest again

There's a bit of freedom on Saturday nights. As you point out, Doctor Who is 45 minutes. Also, Casualty is 50 minutes.

However most weeknight dramas tend to be 1hr.

But what about PC Andy if it's not in Cardiff?

No. It's a premium cable channel - similar to HBO and SHOWTIME (I subscribe to STARZ here in the US). There are no commercial breaks during a movie or series. Torchwood will most likely run between 50-60 minutes per episode (which is about the same with their other TV series "Spartacus: Blood & Sand").

I dunno, I think a week night is more likely.....the thing is what A2A ratings this year on a friday night showed us was the ratings slipped a wee bit due to some of the target audience being out on the tiles. Same would be true for TW on a saturday I think. Personally I'd like it to be on a Monday.

I think we should start a James Marsters petition. Is it worthy of a thread of its own? Surely so if enough of us want it!!!!! Make our voices heard!!!!! ”

Of course it's worthy of a thread of its own; PARTICULARLY if photos are posted...frequently haha

I hope Rhys and the baby are in it or I'll just worry about them on their own in Cardiff.

The thing is...the Rift was in Cardiff, that's why Torchwood was there, wasn't it? (Didn't watch all TW so might be wrong).

So is the Rift still there or not? And if so, how can they go elsewhere? And if not, why not?

I think thats something that will be cleared up in the opening episode, RTD has been very clear the rift is gone (presumably the explosion in the hub closed it up or something) all that really remains is a couple of throw away lines to verify it.

Aren't there multiple rifts around the world? My memory is vague (I haven't rewatched Torchwood Seasons 1 & 2 in a long time) but wasn't it mentioned that there are other Torchwood agencies located in various countries? You have to assume that wherever there's a Torchwood agency, there's a rift nearbye.

Torchwood as introduced in Army of Ghosts was setup by Queen Victoria 'to defend the british empire': IIRC there was reference to a TW in Edinburgh, so it appears that there was one in cardiff as a national head office (presumably also one in Belfast, although you could argue for Dublin I suppose).

It'll be interesting to see how they handle that in a US location, although there could presumably be TW cells all over the world in former or current possessions.

There was never any mention of muliple rifts.

Torchwood 1 was built at Canary Wharf to grant access to the Breech but that's not the same as a Rift.

Presumably the previous site of TW1 was elsewhere in London.

There were 4 main* Torchwood bases mentioned in the show and they seem to have just been spread across the UK.

We were never told where the missing Torchwood 4 was but as the others were in Scotland, England and Wales it's possible it was in Ireland/Northern Ireland.

We know TW1 and TW3 were destroyed, TW4 went missing and I believe we were told in CoE that TW2 had disbanded.

If there are others across the World they would be in countries that were once part of the British Empire.

*They do seem to have some other locations such as the one under the Thames (as seen in The Runaway Bride).

Lizo has tweeted the following in the last hour or so:

Quote:
“Looks v likely that Russell T Davies will be live from LA on BBC News Channel 9.30pm talking about news that TW4's been greenlit! #Torchwood”

Be interesting to see what he has to say....

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

But I still wouldn't be surprised if they go with the idea that the Torchwood agencies has expanded to other countries. That's the beauty of TV shows and the scifi genre in general - you can always reinvent stuff as you go along no matter what has been established in past episodes. Some fans would be bothered by this obviously.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this. I found CoE disturbing and it felt more like an episode of Spooks than Torchwood. I'm hoping by the time that this airs I'll be ready to watch it.

I am still a bit anxious about this because I think that there may be too much meddling from the money men to allow RTD to do what he wants - but if he can resist that it could be a good evolution for the series.
