Having just announced the cancellation of her Southampton gig for the second time for no specific reason some fans (rightly in my view) started criticising La Roux for letting down her fans and increasingly regular.

She then hit back by posting as her status how people don't understand how hard she works, not seeing her family etc. etc. And when people continued to criticise her saying she was whinging despite living what a lot of people many would consider to be a dream. La Roux then posted a final status condemning those fans who hadn't shown loyalty to her.

While I know that sometimes there are good reasons for cancelling in this case it seems there are none and the fact the show had already been rescheduled once makes it worse. Although a refund has been offered it would not compensate people for travel/accommodation costs already incurred. I think she should be a bit more sympathetic towards those fans who felt let down and by responding in this defensive way whinging about her life and even swearing she has simply created a probable press story, which will annoy even more people. If the reason as some have suggested is her success in America then that in my view would be utterly inexcusable.

Never known a band to cancel so many shows, it seems they cancel or postpone at least every few months?!

Welcome to the music industry, would you like a leaflet? If there was a reason then fair enough, but there is no reason, so she's whinging, if you don't want a career in music, quit.

And if she's missing her family, maybe if she wasnt such a luddite she'd use twitter/skype to communicate with'em

In my opinion her reply to the fans all telling her to '**** off' are completely reasonable.

Any 'non-celebrity' who got told to **** off and go die, would obviously retaliate but because she's 'famous' she can't do that. This is one of the reasons I like La Roux, fame hasn't made her non-opinionated! If she doesn't like something she says it and some people have difficulty accepting that.

In response to the cancellation, I do think it's a little bizarre but it's something which she can't control and life will go on.

Could say it works the other way round too.

She reminds me of Lily Allen with all these outbursts, only Lily was funny with them imo. Elly just seems like a right misery.

While I love La Roux's music I have to agree with this. She needs to cheer up!!

Fans have the right to upset especially seeing as they're not even going to re-schedule the southampton date. They're totally letting their fans down.

Elly should watch what she says though, she's not exactly a huge star so her fans can easily turn on her.

True they can turn on her at any second, they made her but they can easily break her.

She needs to respect her fans, they are the reason she is doing well and she repays them by doing this, its just not right. You wouldn't catch Kylie Minogue doing that, You would'nt catch GaGa, Madonna, Christina, Paramore, ACDC, Girls Alous, the list endles doing that.

I read the disagreement on Facebook and the OTT hate comments are out of order. Those who made them should be banned from all future La Roux gigs and deleted from the page if that is possible.

I don't know who is responsible for managing La Roux's schedule, but it needs to be managed better. If something is alread arranged for a particular date, nothing should be arranged that would clash with the date. When gigs are canceled, I think the fans should be given a brief explanation as to why.

This controversy comes at a very interesting time, the band's peak of success in the US.

bottom line is, she re-booked the gig a few months back and she should honour it unless she's ill.

i noticed on the saturday she's playing the isle of wight so, rather than come back for the southampton gig on the sunday, she's probably staying in the isle of wight to get wasted.

i'm under no illusions she don't give a stuff about fans - but she does try to appease some of the stalkery type ones - she has some weird fans omg someone's seen her 9 times can you believe that?

Ok just read the actual comments. She has said she has barely seen her family and home in over a year... surely that doesn't make you empathize with her situation? I think some people are being really harsh.

With all the method of communication she should use it, she isnt the only one who hasn't seen her family in over a year, neither has other artists and bands that tour the world.

She needs to suck it up (no pun intended) and just get on with it.

i can appreciate she's tired - i think she's hit a wall with all the travelling & timezones, but she signed up for it ages ago & then only a couple of weeks ago she accepted the isle of wight gig so why doesn't she cancel that? probably because she can gain more kudos from doing ithat than an 02 gig or like my earlier post said, spend the sunday partying. can't blame her tbh, she's 22 and she's got a lot of responsibility on her shoulders but still think she shouldn't cancel southampton.

Elly probably gets annoyed that people keep getting her name wrong.

Seeing someone nine times isn't that many. I've probably seen a couple of bands getting on nine times on a single tour.

yeah but la roux, i love her music but its not even an hour long set. no way would i see someone that many times, a lot of her fans fancy her so much she could do anything & they'd still love her. at the end of the day people are treated as they allow themselves to be treated.

I'm sure this is the THIRD time she has cancelled Southampton? Two of my friends are/were seeing her, and they have missed out twice already. Now they are to miss out again for the third time!

she's tweeted now to say that today she's on Good Mornng America.

this is why fans are annoyed - cant do a gig but makes herself available for tv appearances.

how she can be suprised people are annoyed is beyond me.

Exactly. Also confirming people's suspicions that she is more concerned about American success than her British fans...

What the hell...she said she hated twitter. Well, you know what, to be honest, I don't blame her...as much as we might say she is compromising her values... making it big in the US is the MAKE or BREAK moment.... it's obvious she wants to be in it for the long run... I am not going to chastise her.

Hold on a second? Didn't people slam her for not updating her facebook just a while back on here? And that her management just updated tour dates etc.

Now she has a dick and is a lesbian?

OK I'm sure she can't be both, I don't mind the criticism of her, and her cancelling isn't something I'm too happy about. But at least make it constructive. I hate Lady Gaga but because I don't like her music and I criticise her in the most constructive way possible. Not by saying she has a dick. By the way so what if she's a lesbian? Are people still that homophobic?

For me this is a complete non story (Bear shits in woods) and it's come off the back of her success in the US. Andy Bell's also had a go at her for trashing him in the NME. What else did he expect in the NME. If she was to nice then she's a fake, if she's honest then she's a bitch. Ms Jackson is caught in between a rock and a hard place. She has a mainstream following who expect her to be nicey nicey and conform and she has a more sort of and I hate to use this word "Indie" following, who expect her to say what she feels and also expect her music to evolve.

But other than congratulations Elly and co on maintaining a top ten spot in the Billboards despite a lack of airplay compared to other songs in and around the charts. Your musical talent is undoubted and that is the most important aspect for me.

Girls Aloud? O I'm sure you would do if you take away Max Clifford. As for the likes of Paramore, I'm sure they would react in some way if people turned against them. Luckily it hasn't happened but its only human nature to defend oneself.

However La Roux had a choice, pityful Southampton or America anyone with a brain would pick the latter.
