Not surprised tbh. Why couldn't they sack pro's with small fanbases like Aliona and as much as I despise Anton to be fair granny's like him so he could stay for that reason but it's a joke this pro stuff.

But look who else has been DEMOTED.

Strictly Come Dancing star Brian Fortuna quit the show last night after BBC chiefs demoted him and four other professional dancers and replaced them with younger stars.
Mr Fortuna, Ian Waite, Matthew Cutler, Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova - who are mostly in their 30s - were offered roles in a 'professional dance troupe', meaning they will no longer compete in the show or be paired with celebrities.
The announcement will reignite claims of ageism at the BBC as the three new dancers brought in to replace them are nearly a decade younger than their predecessors.

To be fair Brian was one of the 'younger cheaper ones' only a few years ago.

But my wifes very disappointed too...

tbh, i think they could have put some better dancers for the celebs. some with abit more of a fan base but you dont know it could make you focus on the people like aliona more she was very striking last series and the producers liked her cause she was in a pro dance almost every week.

For me, Brian only just seemed to be coming to the forefront and really got into his stride with Ali in the last series, I can understand why he would rather quit than be sidelined!

Now its seems like they are changing the format for changing sake, I don't see the point of bringing in 3 new dancers if they then sideline the current dancers- not impressed with the news from Strictly so far, doesn't bode well for the series to come for me

No!! Ian, Matt and Lilia are my favourite pros, and I think the best teachers, which is a huge part of ths show for me. This is horrible news. What are the BBC thinking??

I'm sorry to see Brian go too, I think he has personality on and off the dance floor and had a lot of offer.

Hmm, doesn't make sense seeing as Brian Fortuna is just 27 years old. There must be more to it than just age. Perhaps the ones that got demoted asked for more money? Just a guess. The show has been beset my salary disputes. If I recall, the pro dancers threatened to quit the show at one point if they didn't get a modest raise.

Brian Fortuna loved doing the show, he must be a bit upset to have been sidelined.

LMAO. But true

I'm sad Brian's gone but it seems like he's going to concentrate on his other commitments.

i can hear the death knell tolling from the BBC studios all the way over in Norn Iron.

Everyone has their favourites, but to demote some of the best dancers and choreographers is one of the crappest decisions ever made.

I think Anton should have been first for the chop as his limitaions became overtly apparent last year. I am also fed up with Brendan's antics which are becoming more and more tiresome.

Oh dear

Good for him! I think the dancers have been treated appallingly and I only wish the other four would have the balls to do the same thing!

I'm glad he told them were to go.
For the first time, I'm seriously considering not watching Strictly this year.
