What does that tell you?

Exec: Gaga you've got to number 17 . . .I'm afraid we're going to have to really get you out there.

Gaga: Oh no problem. . .I'll dress in a bubble suit, act crazy, get in the papers every day and everyone will see me avant-garde and cool. The music on the disc has got me to number 17 - but with some crazy faux-personality I feel I can get it higher.

Exec: Exactly what we were thinking!

That was just after the first single however, poker face is what made the album sell.

Yep, we're all idiots. We didn't buy it for the music, but because of what she wears

I won't try to argue with you about why Gaga is is a great artist, because you won't agree with me no matter what I say. But what I can say is that Gaga has earned massive commercial success and critical acclaim for her work, and has earned widespread praise from those involved in music and also many who aren't interested in music - particularly many people who are disillusioned with today's music. She has also converted a lot of cynics since she burst onto the scene at the start of last year. Can't ask for much more than that.

Why am I saying this anyway? Trying to reason with Gaga-haters is a waste of time. Oh well, I have nothing better to do. At least I'm being reasonable.

What does that tell you? Erm, random, fairly dancey act comes along with Just Dance and tops the charts. one song in and with little else known about her, surprisingly she isn't an instant album seller.

It tells you that 10 Million Copies sold later that the quality shone through in the end, and the initial positioning of an album doesn't define the success or failure of that record.

while i think i preferred Gaga at the start with her more simplistic video's she's gotten WAAAAY too out there and famous too early on! i loved her and now i just find her good for background motivation music. i bought The Fame by Just Dance alone and thought it may or may not be a hit when i bought it, then later of course i ordered The Fame Monster which is better in terms of the material quality with some simplistic but hitting songs.

but after Bad Romance overhype and Telephone's overkill i kinda unfortunately went into hater mode, but now i think on a bridge..she's Marmite really, but i hate it when she has good music but her video's reflect a lack of originality when the concepts sound so great!
but i did think there was a Hammer Horror vibe with Alejandro which was pretty cool, but dragged on a bit which was a shame :/ also i liked the Madonna references being a fan of Madonna myself

but i still have my faves Dance In The Dark,Alejandro,Teeth,Paper Gangsta,Brown Eyes and LOVEGAME

like i said she's marmite, and just as famous but i think every artist is to be honest.

I think she's given herself quite a hard task of having to follow up all these big videos and performances. It's done her really well by getting her as big as she is but she's gonna need some proper guidance to make sure she can keep it up and keep people interested.

I really hope she can. Gotta love the Gaga

It is. but what did you expect from a bitter Christina fan ?. She isn't exactly going to set the charts alight with her latest album so the frustrations are boiling over.

As for The Fame debuting at #17 that just goes to show that first week sales and chart positions are not always important. In the end it's about total sales and longevity.

Christina is #1 in the UK midweeks and #2 in the USA midweeks. She is almost certain to be #1 in the worldwide album chart in two weeks.

Why would any XTina fan be frustrated? its performed better than we had hoped given everyone was saying what a flop it was going to be.

Now I await your reply..

Agreed. All the Christina haters are the ones frustrated because her album hasn't flopped the way they hoped. Its actually performed well and infact is on course to sell more than Stripped did in its first week of release.

Come back when Gaga is able to get a number one album in her home territory.

Your clutching at straws

She has sold more than 10 million copies world wide and is 3xPlatinum in the USA (Over 3 million!) not including TFM.

Yeah, What a flop!

Im not saying shes a flop - far from it - but dont criticise other artists when Gaga hasnt had a number one in the USA since 2008.

What difference does it make. Yeah she's not had a number 1 in the US for ages but she's sure as hell made up for it by reaching #1 in dozens of other countries around the world. Including the UK for about 7 weeks on and off.

Janets last studio album reached #1 in the US but Disipline has barely sold a third of what The Fame has. #1s aren't everything.

Sorry, my mistake it wasnt you who mentioned Christina, however my point still stands. Fans/Stans will always use sales when they want to and forget them when it suits them.

It's not about being number 1, its about longlevity and total sales which i think she has done amazing coz all 7 of her singles have gone platnum.

My point is that number ones and sales matter when the fans want them to, but theyre quick to defend top 5/10/20 hits of their favourite artists whilst also slating other artists who get to number one with low sales. Its all very contradictory.
