The pro's should back each other up

If they plan to rotate the pros then I don't see how that going to work. Is it going to be random or based on their performance. I don't get it.

No, I don’t agree. Professional dance is a dog eat dog world, they could all walk out the door and believe me there are hundreds of dancers ready, willing and able to step in their shoes
.
Strictly was in need of a revamp and giving the pro’s the option of staying is surely better than being shown the door? I suspect they are trying to introduce a rota system, having a pool of dancers that they can call upon for future series. As usual, the BBC have been heavy handed and instead of turning people on with the possibilities this offers have managed to alienate just about everyone. They are going after a market share that just doesn’t want to know, whilst giving their very loyal (albeit slightly older) audience the finger. No amount of muscle bound hunks or inexperienced (albeit attractive) judges will entice the 18-25 year old market to watch. Suggest they attend their own Strictly tours (celeb and pro) and actually study where their very loyal market lies.

In my opinion the only problems Strictly has are (a) a much loved presenter who has to now accept that the time has come to retire, (b) celebs who are actually celebs that we recognize/emphathise with. My fingers are crossed that their spectacular pro dances live up to the hype – if we are given routines like that Hollywood tribute thing the portion of their audience prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt will abandon ship pronto!

Hopefully the “sidelined” pro’s will decide to stick around – Strictly is still very high profile and will give them the freedom to pursue their other projects, with the hope that it will be their turn to step up to the plate in the next series (if it survives). We all have views on the pro’s given celebs and the pro’s offered the group option; I think errors in choice have been made but it is what it is! A light entertainment programme where no one will die, just a few ego’s will get or have been bruised.

I hope Brian took a step back and really thought through his options; it will be a shame if this was just an impulsive knee jerk reaction and one he may come to regret.

Bring back Arlene – now that would take balls!

Joy, peace and goodwill people. Here endeth the coffee induced ramble. x

Surely if the old guard put on a united front the BBC would have to at least consider a change and bring the old pros back?
It would be a devastating blow for them to have to find 14 new dancers.

Saying that, the 5 pros in question may be seriously demoralised by the idea already and not wish to involve their old friends.

Hmm.

What are your thoughts? ”

I wonder about the SCD tours - are the BBC keeping Darren, Lilia, Matt etc., in the background because they are still needed to draw the crowds in for their tours?

Brendan, Erin and Anton do their own tours.

Tissy (hi!) I had a similar conversation with some friends after we saw the pro tour.

We wondered if the pros who didn't do the pro tour would be the ones at risk, because the pro tour show featured a lot of the SCD brand - the set, the 'kaleidoscope coloured' logo, the judges, one of the singers, etc.

Brendan, Darren & Lilia and Anton & Erin were all doing their own thing - so were they the ones at risk?

Clearly not.

Well hello Buddy

Forgot about the Pro tour - was thinking about the main one which I was lucky enough to see this year

Darren and Lilia were there - Brendan, Erin and Anton AWoL so would have assumed they`d be more at risk

Just don`t understand the BBC

So it's possible that the impact of this frankly stupid and typically badly managed decision may not be felt for another year yet ...”

Yeah, I agree. I suspect even if they'd want to consider their position now, they're tied into the contracts and it makes economic sense at least to see it out. Whether they return next year will be another thing entirely, that's when I suspect we could see a few people leaving having lined up other work during the year...

I wondered if the beeb had been looking at how the tours sold as a basis of who to keep - then realised that didn't add up as the Pro tour I think did really well, Brendans Live and Unjudged got some really good reviews, think Anton and Erin's did well so who knows.

As for the remaining pro's striking they could very well then e told fine if that's how you feel your out leaving us with the troup and a load of new dancers

Given they advertised in The Stage for new pro dancers, I'm sure there is a long waiting list of dancers who will get contracts if any or all the existing pros turn down contracts.

I understand that the Celeb tour is a BBC franchise - the beeb really dont have much say in what goes on - which was why Arlene was back again. The celeb tour is controlled by the promoter so as such can contract who it likes but would think that if D&L and Matt and Ian dont stick around the main show that they may not be contracted for that...

Arlene was back on the tour because she said on the five o'clock show that she agreed to the tour atfer the previous tour and before the decision was made to axe her from the show itself.

I understand the pro/celeb tour is contracted separately from the tv show, if the pro dancers are free from other commitments, then they will do it, otherwise they are under no obligation to do the tour.

Arlene was apparently largely responsible for instigating the tour, so it would have been difficult not to have her as a judge. If she is not judging at the next tour, it will be because she no wishes to.
