No, I don’t agree. Professional dance is a dog eat dog world, they could all walk out the door and believe me there are hundreds of dancers ready, willing and able to step in their shoes
.
Strictly was in need of a revamp and giving the pro’s the option of staying is surely better than being shown the door? I suspect they are trying to introduce a rota system, having a pool of dancers that they can call upon for future series. As usual, the BBC have been heavy handed and instead of turning people on with the possibilities this offers have managed to alienate just about everyone. They are going after a market share that just doesn’t want to know, whilst giving their very loyal (albeit slightly older) audience the finger. No amount of muscle bound hunks or inexperienced (albeit attractive) judges will entice the 18-25 year old market to watch. Suggest they attend their own Strictly tours (celeb and pro) and actually study where their very loyal market lies.
In my opinion the only problems Strictly has are (a) a much loved presenter who has to now accept that the time has come to retire, (b) celebs who are actually celebs that we recognize/emphathise with. My fingers are crossed that their spectacular pro dances live up to the hype – if we are given routines like that Hollywood tribute thing the portion of their audience prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt will abandon ship pronto!
Hopefully the “sidelined” pro’s will decide to stick around – Strictly is still very high profile and will give them the freedom to pursue their other projects, with the hope that it will be their turn to step up to the plate in the next series (if it survives). We all have views on the pro’s given celebs and the pro’s offered the group option; I think errors in choice have been made but it is what it is! A light entertainment programme where no one will die, just a few ego’s will get or have been bruised.
I hope Brian took a step back and really thought through his options; it will be a shame if this was just an impulsive knee jerk reaction and one he may come to regret.
Bring back Arlene – now that would take balls!
Joy, peace and goodwill people. Here endeth the coffee induced ramble. x
