Oasis are definitely legends.. when you think of 90's music you think of them and the Spice Girls. the union jack iconography and all that.

their fisrt two albums are always held in high regard as two of the greatest of all time.

They may not go down as legends, but when people think back to this current times music and leading ladies, Beyonce, Rihanna, Christina, Britney and Lady Gaga will be mentioned.

But I think Beyonce will go down a legend. She has been in the business for around 13 years and her last album has sold the most, so she isn't wearing out just yet..

Yep just as the 60's are associated with Beatlemania, with young girls acting hysterical everywhere the Beatles went.

I love discussions like this, and the thing is you'll never really get it right.

Who would have though Madness could still sell out arenas 30 years down the line. Or Wet Wet Wet could still get bums on seats ?

What about Take That's comeback ? I think that will cement them into one of the greatest bands of the last few years.

Teh acts that have come to be considered legends are often those that are considered to finish too early like the Beatles, finished before they tarnished their reputation Like Led Zepplin (In Through The Out Door showed they were moving in a direction that would alienate much of their fanbase) or acts that have sufferd a lull in popularity and emerged with some spectacular Music like Bowie and Queen. Or acts that had worked hard and have a huge back catalogure and suddenly they release something that captures the general public's imaginiation liek Genesis or R.E.M

Of teh current crop of bands Radiohead are up there as are Muse. If Coldplay were to release soemthing different in the next few years they could acheive it. Obviously U2 are up there.

Someone said earlier if teh Strokes release something spectacular they will acheive this and there will certainly be soem dance acts elevated to "legend" status Jay Z and Emiminem spring to mind

Beyonce would be my pick of the female artists. I have a feeling she'll become something akin to Barbra Steisand in America. I'm not an out and out fan of hers, but I can see why she'll last the distance and morph into an all round type of entertainer.

Jay-Z. He IS hip-hop in 2010, his influence reaches beyond recording and selling his own records. He's finally gone top10 in the UK, headlined Glasto, making him THE most influential man in hip-hop today, one of the most influential men in hip-hop, nay, music, ever.

Watching her perform in South Africa tonight, and thinking about her output, I'm inclined to think that Alicia Keys will make an indelible mark as time goes by.

Jack White. Probably the last true (classic) rock star.

I'd say Beyonce, i consider her a legend now anyway with the major success with Destiny's Child and solo career. She is one of the best performers of all time, has one hell of a voice (the best of her generation). She has the respect of her peers and music industry, wipes the floor with artists in major award shows, she has 16 Grammys, being the only female artist to bag 6 Grammys in one night. She is the hottest thing out there being the richest celebrity under 30. You can go on and on and on with her achievements. and TALENTED.

Plus 'Single Ladies' has got to be one of the most famous songs in the world now.

Britney Spears I think (not really for her music.. but more for her story). Beyonce is also on her way there.

Nah, he's overrated imo. He could only muster up one good song in his whole career. He'll be remembered though, sure.

I'd say Radiohead, Oasis, Muse, Blur, Green Day, Kasabian, The Killers, Eminem, Kanye West, possibly The Strokes, possibly My Chemical Romance, if they pull something well and truly spectacular and different out the bag with the new album, and, if she were to come out of retirement, Lily Allen would be the only ones who'd be remembered.

And if I ever have kids, I'm going to force them to listen to Pass Out and Frisky by Tinie Tempah, whether they bloody well like it or not.

i think in this day and age Radiohead are already regarded as legends whether people like it or not.

I think in terms of artists from the last decade I think Muse have to be up there, again Coldplay will be up there and Eminem

The Strokes could regain popularity with their next record

If Arctic Monkeys can pull something out of the bag next time around then they could be.. same goes for Kings Of Leon and The Killers

those with an outside chance M.I.A, Kanye West, Dizzee Rascal (although he really needs to put some creativity back into his music)

I think if Interpol do well with their new album then people may go back and listen to their previous albums and realize how good they are, much like what happened with Kings Of Leon a couple years ago

Kasabian are going from strength to strength”

M.I.A ? LOOOOL

Beyoncé definitely, Britney Spears and hopefully Lady Gaga - I could probably think of more but it's early!
