O2 announce iPhone 4 tariff's

I'm glad that O2 have followed Orange and Vodafone by explicitly saying how much data is included. 500megabytes seems to be the norm on lower price tariffs.
How does this affect existing contracts that have an unlimited data usage (fair usage policy), ie, existing iphone 3g/3gs owners?
To me unlimited data is much more useful than unlimited texts!

Not only that but unlimited texts don't include MMS, I dont use many MMS but charging you for them is lame.
so my existing package is MUCH better. £35 a month with £10 loyalty discount so £25 monthly, 600 mins, 500 messages (MMS included) and unlimited data and wifi.
Not impressed.

Bye Bye o2 is indeed correct. I read this:
"Existing unlimited data customers sticking to their current plan will still receive the same service as they do now, at least until 1 October. They’ll then be able to buy O2 Bolt Ons which include 500MB of data for £5, or 1GB for £10. Of course, these customers won’t be able to use their existing SIMs in a new iPhone 4."
My contract expires next July. . .and I signed up to an 18 months contract WITH unlimited Data - so if they try to change my tariff mid-contract then I'm afraid they're in for a bit of a shock.

Although I probably don't use 500MB a month, I still think it's nice to have it available if needed. On giffgaff unlimited truly means unlimited (not even a FUP), so my £10 a month on a simple PAYG bundle gets me 100 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data and I can be pretty sure of only very rarely going over that (usually due to needing to call 0870 or something if saynoto0870 can't help - but even then it's only 20p/min). Their basic PAYG rates are very good too, and there are higher monthly bundles available (giffgaff call them goodybags) for those who want them too.
On balance I think it is making more and more sense to simply buy the handsets on PAYG and then use something like giffgaff in them. By happy coincidence giffgaff runs on (and is in fact owned by) O2, so you don't even need to unlock an O2 handset - including the iPhone. I've been with them since my O2 contract ran out in January and I've not looked back. They even give payback if you participate in their forums helping other users out (this is in lieu of direct telephone support), and I'll be getting over £200 for the past 6 months in about a week's time which will help pay for the new iPhone. They also give payback for recommending the service to others (they keep their costs low by doing minimal advertising themselves), so if you do want to give them a go my username is the same there as it is here.

This is a joke and typical of UK customers being corked. Am I also correct in stating that because they have stated MMS is 20p each they will no longer acount as 4 from your text message allowance - all be it unlimted fair use?
I have not been charged for sending MMS for years, it was always 4 off my text message allowance. Farce if this is true.
Think I will stick to my simplicity 600 mins, unlimted texts and mms and data for 20 quid a month

Likewise. I signed it on the understanding I was agreeing to 24 months unlimited data. if sky change their packages they give the option for you to end the agreement early as there changing what you agreed to. I hope if O2 try and push a limit on us they will offer the same get out early option.
Where did you read that tho? I cant see it anywhere on the iphone 4 page.

O2 ditched the MMS thing when they went to unlimited text messages. I still get it in my old simplicity tariff but you don't on the new ones.
I am on a 1 month rolling contract with O2 on the simplicity tariff where i get 1200 minutes unimited texts and unlimited internet. Does that mean if i get an iphone 4 i will have to cut down to 500mb internet ive used over that amount already and my bill doesnt renew till the 16th of this month. I think i might have to shop around or wait a little bit to see if anything comes up. Or by the phone pay as you go and use the simplicity tariff still if i can.

going by that logic existing contracts should remain as they are, ie, unlimited data.

That's the basic PAYG rate it's talking about (i.e. if you aren't using a goodybag bundle with inclusive data). Since giffgaff's launch 6 months ago, data has been free for everyone on a limited time promotion, but after the end of June you can either pay 20p/MB (with the 50p/day soft cap), or get a £10, £15, or £35 goodybag and have as much data as you like completely inclusive.

I checked my usage data in the iPhone and it's 1.2GB.

It should say underneath when the counter was last reset.

It says that it has never been reset. Does that mean I've only used 1.2GB in 14 months! I thought I was a fairly heavy data user.
im always on my iphone using it for apps and youtube etc, my last months usage was only 70mb!!! i think most of the time im using it at home or at work and its over wifi thats probs y its soo low.
