Indeed, you would have to be a pretty heavy data user to break 500MB on a phone, i'm pretty certain I have never broke it.

It means you have used 1.2gb of cellular data in 14 month, not including wifi usage.

I think the 500mb will be a bigger problem for people who dont have access to wifi and for myself I can see it becomming an issue with using skype away from the office. even more so with the multi tasking ability.

Fantastic, thanks (and thanks big_hard_lad), I was concerned when I saw unlimited data was gone but clearly I've got nothing to worry about. Roll on june 24th!

No problem, always happy to help.

I've not got WiFi in work but I do at home. Going to have to monitor my usage and see if I'm going to get shafted.

I notice they haven't mentioned how much you'll be charged if you exceed the allowance (other than the extra £5 for the extra 500MB, of course).

probably default to the £1 a day they have on other tariffs

O2 network scraps unlimited data for smartphones - BBC News Link

so if you have unlimited data on ANY o2 phone, does this mean it will still be changing to 500mb for everyone?

For all Smartphones yes, not just iPhone, although the BBC say it is from the next upgrage, whereas on O2 it says October doesn't it?

It says "All new and upgrading customers will have their usage capped at between 500 Megabytes (MB) and one gigabyte (GB) depending on their monthly tariff."

So if you stick with the tariff you have and get the phone on PAYG then I think you will be unaffected until October. Although 500MB is plenty for me.

What it's saying is that if you stick with your current "unlimited" deal and don't upgrade you STICK with your unlimited deal.

If you're a new customer, or you upgrade on/after 24th June you then get the new deals with the *limited* data. However, as a special offer they're giving everyone on the new deal unlimited data until 1st October.

Only where it is advertised as unlimited... I doubt they will advertise the new iPhone as unlimited.

Well, I use approx 3.5GB a month on iPhone, so I won't be upgrading with O2.

From the new iphone tarrif page
http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html
Quote:
“Unlimited data on all smartphone tariffs is a promotion until 1 October 2010. Excessive usage policy and terms apply, see o2.co.uk.”

as someone on PAYG, that looks pretty good.

at the moment i just top up £10-£15 a month, mainly for the texts. and the unlimited data is £10 a month on top of that. (just coming to the end of my year's supply include from when i bought the phone.

but under the new tariffs, it looks as though i'll be able to top up just £10 a month and get 300 texts and 500MB internet.

which sounds like a good deal to me!

I've used 2.0 GB in 10 months. Most companies have the 500MB limit so with your usage you will struggle

What the hell are you using it for!!? I have used 2.9Gb in 11 months and people are always saying to me that I'm never off my phone. I download apps mostly through 3G although if I'm at home or it's large I obviously would use wi-fi, but I'm always browsing, facebooking, the very rare YouTube video and don't think I could use 3.5Gb amonth if I tried!

Having said that, I am on a 45 a month contact with a £7.50 a month unlimited text bolt on as I was going over the measely 500 included, so it will benefit me as I can cancel the bolt on and get unlimited texts. I will still shop around though as I do everytime as the more you can hit o2 with, the better deal they will give you!

i take it im suppose to be looking at the received data to find out if im hitting the cap?

if thats the case ive hit exactly 2GB in 12 months as the counter has never been reset

Same mine says 2.0gb in 17 months.. wow that all?

Mine says 816mb but I don't believe it. . .I'm never off.

I'll go through the past 10 months of my bill online and I'll report back how much I've used in each month.

Am I right in saying that Unlimited TEXTS is now standard and inclusive ?

If it is. . .then I'll actually be really happy. Unlimited Texts plus Internet usage (if mine is under the 500mb then I'm practically getting unlimited) all in the tariff.

If you are just doing email and web browsing, you won't trouble 500mb even if you used those heavily. It's when you get into music and video that things start to hurt.

Good to see O2 finally release details of their tarriffs, now I just wish the others (mainly Vodafone) would pull their fingers out and release tarriff details.
