I have a 3GS PAYG with O2 - had it since launch and will be getting the iPhone 4 also on launch day.
Reading around the web there are a few threads like this with people complaining about losing the unlmited data quoting that they use x gb a month.
The only way you can run up such a large data allowance in one month is if your phone is jail broken and you are using the MyWi Cydia app to tether, 3G Unstrictor, using installous to download apps or have some app like PocketTV where you can download movies etc. If you stop downloading stuff over the cellular network then you would find it hard to go over 500mb i reckon .. unless you have something like WunderRadio or TuneIn radio and you listen to it everyday.
With regards the iOS 4 - it will take a little while to jailbreak so for the first few weeks / months maybe i doubt anyone would exceed 500mb - once they have figured out a way to jailbreak then normal business will be resumed.
With 500mb you've just got to be 'smart' as to when you use your jail break apps - most of the apps you can wait until you get home and use your own wifi connection (e.g. installous, pocket tv etc). . .MyWi is the only app i would use for cellular data . .although saying that I can get download speeds 3 or 4 times faster on 3G than i can get on my wireless network at home so the temptation will be there to download stuff in minutes rather than hours etc . . .
Saying that i have requested my PAC code from O2 this morning and will have it at hand should a better deal be announced from another network . . .
Just my 2 cents . . .
