02 Contract termination
I currently have a blackberry 8900 which I have had since May 2009 on an 18 month contract with o2. I got it through CPW and have the geek squad policy but the problem is the trackball has gone really sticky and I have to press down really hard for it to respond which can get a bit painful if I'm using it for a while. I looked at the CPW website and they say Blackberry phones have to be sent off for repairs which could take a while so is it possible for me to just write it off and leave my contract and getting a new phone? I want a blackberry 9700 and am happy with o2 but if I did change what charges are likely to apply?

just send it away, usually be back as good as new in less than a week.
if you do decide to leave you will need to either 1- take out a new contract and stick your existing one in a drawer, cancel when your applicable 2- buy yourseld out of it (pay remainder of line rental in one lump) 3- take new contract, use new handset and old sim. at end of existing contract ring o2 and ask to move ur number over to newer contract. either way your going to have to pay for the remainder of your contract. Personally I would just send it away, get it fixed and then either wait till upgrade time or sell handset on ebay, pay off contract and take a new one out (hopefully all from cash from ebay sale!) |

Thanks
I may buy myself out as I havent got too long to go before it's due to end (4 months). If I buy it out do I still get to keep the phone? If so I could sell it to recoup some of the cash

I had a problem with the trackball. I turned it off and placed it face down on a wet wipe, pressed it slightly down then pushed the phone around the wipe. It cleaned the ball and it works fine.

If you are going to bung the phone in the drawer, my advice would be pay it off in one go rather than let it run, because you won't have to pay the VAT on the remaining months.
Why not just put the SIM into another old phone and get the benefit of the allowances? It's only a few months to go when you could upgrade 'naturally' so to speak. |
