People always talk about that moment or moments that defined music for them and made a huge impact on their lives. It could be a performance, song, video or event. Im just interested in what other people would choose.

For me, I suppose the 2003 VMAs with Britney & Christina & Madonna. As Madge rose out of the cake and just had the look on her face, it made me stop and realise for the first time the power of performance and music. Also the 2009 VMAs with Gaga bleeding was totally awe inspiring and inspirational.

So, over to you?

Blurs Country House vs Oasis' Roll with it in the Summer of 95

For a 12 year old who was just getting really into music it was a great time. Still the best chart battle ever imo

Listening to There Is A Light That Never Goes Out by The Smiths. It's still my favourite song and it started off my whole musical interests.

I was too young to remember that, but one chart battle I do remember that will probably be a defining moment was RATM vs X Factor. Pretty good.

though I'll own up, I bought the Joe track

A decision I will regret for the rest of my life

On a personal level.
My brother had just attempted to kill himself and coldplay-fix you, came on the radio on the way to the hospital.
corny I know, but we didn't know if he'd survive at that point so I lost it in the car.

Watching a pirated three hour video of Queen when I was eight - Greatest Flix, The Works Video EP, and We Will Rock You concert (now sold as Rock Montreal).
Blew me away totally - both Freddie and Brian had me transfixed, and still do to this day.

Much later in my life, watching both of Elvis' comeback specials - '68 and '76(?). Amazing.
Didn't make me an Elvis fan, but showed me finally what all the fuss was about.

I think N-Dubz defined music, in a way.

It defined how truly shit music could be at times.

Jeez, I could fill en entire thread myself with moments that show the worst of 'music'.
Sometimes I wonder if even the word music is a debateable term.

Nah, It would be Bewitched for me, because I was in Australia
missed their first releases so first I heard of them was Bewitched and then that was me - hooked.

While the Beatles are my all-time favourite band and the single of theirs I like best is I Feel Fine, I think music will have changed once She Loves You reached no 1.

Oasis v Blur chart battle 1995.. was about 9 at the time and it was around the time when I was starting to take music seriously

taking the piss out of my mum for liking the Beatles cos they were "in the olden days" but when I was around 16 I put on one of her records and had a listen and thought to myself "oh this is what all the fuss is about"

Jarvis Cocker v Michael Jackson (Brit Awards)

Seeing the video to the Verve song Bittersweet Symphony, the music and the video just seemed to fit perfectly and for a while it was my favourite song of all time

Seeing the video for Firestarter by the Prodigy, was about 10 at the time and was shit scared but it made me realize how exciting music could be

watching Michael Jackson videos for the first time and thinking the world will never see an entertainer quite like that again

Watching the film "Control" for the first time (biopic about Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division) then sitting down playing Joy Division records all day an really connecting with it to the point where I now think Curtis is the best songwriter of all time.

Radiohead... don't need to say anymore

Watching a music channel late one night and hearing Bloc Party for the first time and thinking wow what a tune and the lead singers black, the drummers chinese which is rare in those type of circles.. being black myself it was quite a poignant moment for me but anyway they went on to make what I think is the second best record of the 00's

One that has stuck in my mind (longer than most) was seeing Angie Stone in Brighton. This was mainly due to the everyone (at least everyone I could see) really looking like they were loving every minute of it and there was just a really happy vibe all night. I felt good just being there and it kept me in a good mood probably for about a week after.

Agreed, I was slightly teary eyed when they won the Brit award. It was so nice to see a hard working band who had slogged away for ages.

Same I saw that I was like :/ It may not have been the best selling album but every song gives me goose bumps and I think what legendary guys they never bragged about it or slated other music acts. They are just 5 guys who want to bring passion back to rock music I was so proud when they won the Brit award. GA won best song and they didnt even deserve that TBH.
