Orange next to cap data ?
Looks like the days of unlimited data use are coming to end if this story is true.

so we have a brilliant phone with brilliant apps like catchup tv, mobile tv, last fm etc but are gonna be massively restricted with what you can do with he phone.
apps like tom tom may aswell be removed from the app store because you will only get half way before reaching your limit |

Surely Orange have data plans at 500megabytes and 750megabytes? So they have nothing to scrap.

The 750mb plans were the unlimited ones which were only a FUP. You could go over with out been charged. I use between 2-3 GB most months on my IPhone with out any problems.

So it's not going to hit any limits halfway along your journey. |

500MB = 8.33 hours on YouTube. Source |

500MB = 8.33 hours on YouTube. Source Just divide the stream kbps rate by 8 and you will get the kilobytes/second it uses.. so 32Kbps = 4KB/s = 12MB/hour 64Kbps = 8KB/s = 23MB/hour 128Kbps = 16KB/s = 57MB/hour |

500mb a day? No chance. From what I can see it's 1000mb a month. Quote:
Unlimited off-peak mobile internet - terms and conditions There are also a crapload of restrictions - no streaming video etc.
Fair usage policy: To ensure the fair allocation of network resources for all customers the Offer may not be used for: modem access for computers, internet based streaming services, voice or video over the internet, Instant Messaging, peer to peer file sharing and non Orange internet based video. If such use is detected, notice may be given and Network protection controls may be applied to all services which Orange does not believe constitute WAP browsing. This may result in a reduced speed of transmission, inability to use such services and, at the discretion of Orange, removal of the Offer. The Offer is subject at all times to a fair usage policy of 1000MB each month. Usage above this amount will constitute abuse & Orange may, at its discretion, monitor usage and withdraw the Offer from your account in the event that the fair usage policy is abused. |

You have to remember that this is mobile internet, not your home WiFi, the networks just cannot cope with excessive traffic. It's grossly unfair anyway when the fair usage is 500MB and some users think it's OK to use 2-3GB or whatever, it's just affecting everyone else's ability to use the network. If you want more data, you pay for it.

I have a business account with Vodafone. Now for all their faults they do a great business data bundle for your phone. £14.00 pm gets you 5GB of data use. I am quite happy to pay this as the phone I use on Vodafone is very data heavy. |
