Checking if I can get a mobile contract?
Does anyone know if there is a way or would a network provider be able to tell me if I would pass their credit check before actually trying to get a contract out?
14 months ago I failed and had to get an o2 contract out in my mums name, but around 4 months ago I got a contract out in my name on vodafone for my gf through mobiles.co.uk. Now my contract is up and I want an iPhone 4, I don't want to be rejected at the last moment and feel embarrassed in the shop and have to go back with someone else and get it in their name again lol. Weird and probably silly question but you never know there might be a way

Order it online to avoid being embarrassed in the shop. That will also give you a cooling off period if you change your mind.

If you already have a contract in your name, just take out another with that same network. You're unlikely to even be checked if you are already with them and have kept your account in good order. T-Mobile checked me 5 years ago when I first had a line with them, since then i've had a total of 6 lines with them and have never been checked since.

All I can say for sure is that T-Mobile credit checked me when I first joined them but have not done so when taking on addional lines. I now have a total of 5 lines with them.

o2 do have more stringent criteria for credit checks than other providers, but there are certain times they relax their criteria for acceptance, such as when figures are low or when it's reaching the end of their quarter.
I know that most people would be accepted for o2 simplicity (sim only contract) then 11 month later could upgrade to pay monthly with a free or reduced handset, providing there has been a clean payment history. If you have broadband or a landline with o2, then I would use that as an argument for them to offer you a contract mobile. |

You could try buying through a carphone warehouse. They used to do their own credit checks on behalf of o2 and it may be slightly easier to pass. For example - my unemployed 19 year old brother got a phone on a £45 a month contract through them
