How has christina pulled it off?
While I like a majority of the album and alot of people here on the forums gave positive feedback - hell even alot of critics have been positive towards it - almost everyone was so convinced that this album was going to flop.
Yet here it is set to debut at Number 1. Why do we think she has managed to pull it out the bag and people have reacted to an album which was lead off the back of a single which the public didnt appear to warm to? |

It might well get to no.1, but whether it will hang around and sell a lot is a totally different matter - we've seen that so many times this year in the uk already. Bionic is expected to suffer poor sales overall, even in America.
And it's actually got generally mixed reviews from critics. |

We have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks to see if it is just the die hard fans buying it. I'm finding it really hard to get into due to so many styles of music and my friends are too (big Christina fans) but i'll keep listening to see if it grows. I honestly can't hear many killer singles on this though.

It got to number 1 because Christina's one of the greatest singers of all time, and one of the best female preformers of all time.
And its a brilliant album. |

She'll have enough loyal fans to secure a decent position in the first week, but like someone said, will it stick around for enough to secure a decent overall performance?

I think it's more...an album...than a collection of singles.
It's upto her singles choices, her record labels marketing decisions, and the videos. Im glad she's got to no.1 though. She has the best voice of this generation. |

No compitition. At all. In fact, Alicia Keys might very well steal the #1 from her this week as she's jumped to #2 in the midweeks and was performing for the World Cup.
She'll probably plummet out of the top 20 next week just like Derulo, Owl City, Ke$ha, Marina, Diana, Antebellum and the rest of the albums released this year. |

The album may well go No.1 and rightly so but of course it won't peak as high in the next couple of weeks.
I think it'll jump in and out of the chart everytime she releases a song and promotes here the album will rise imo. This whole thing is just funny to me, nearly everyone was ruling out she'd even make the top ten in the uk, EVEN WITHOUT COMPETITION and now it looks like she will and head for No.1, people are saying it's because of her loyal fanbase. Well why weren't you saying that before? People have just completely underestimated Xtina... |

I think what most people were concerned about is that the album was bigged up before anyone hear it. There was promises of massive, amazing, super-duper collaborations which have been a let down to people.
I haven't heard the album, but this is the message I was getting from around t'internet. |

People have just completely underestimated Xtina... I'm pleased for her that her album is set for the top spot but I do agree with most others that theres a good chance it'll drop quite quickly if she doesn't do some promotion for it soon. |

Bionic is sensational and everyone must hear it!! best pop album in years and Christina is one of the greats!! loved Stripped and Back To Basics, but Bionic is her greatest work EVER!! and it's just an album that will remain popular in the charts when she promotes in the UK, besides we have Eminem which is a guaranteed topper in a few weeks which may just do the same too!
but Bionic should achieve the same success as Stripped and be known as an astonishing piece of work ![]() i love Christina and love Bionic. |

Because the album is good and she has a strong and loyal fanbase here in the UK. When she does more promo and releases more singles her sales will increase.

To be fair I think it is because of her loyal fanbase. She's done zero promotion over here for the album or single and her single isn't even in the top 40 anymore. So how else would you explain it, besides a bloody miracle?!
but what i meant, is about all those stating Bionic wasn't going to even enter top ten at all because of a bomb single and no promo, yet now she is oh "it's cos of her fanbase". Well she always had her fanbase. You just underestimated her..When it comes to Xtina, people will still buyher albums even though NMT didn't do well, it doesn't represent the album. |

also, doesnt that actually reflect the charts since the dawn of time?!?! LMAO at some posts here, omg she's gonna flop yadda yadda yadda!! when she's DEBUTING at #1! and going to have success every single release and when she does UK promo, Bionic isn't for the month...it's for life! i mean she'll do promo in Europe after the US i imagine and then travel WW. then reappear again later in the year for X Factor performance (and mentor hopefully!) to promote her newest single from Bionic at that time (third or fourth i hope!) which will re-enter the album in the top 10 or 5!! and ship loads more copies by the end of the year. Bionic is brilliant, no other contemporary artist could create an album as blockbuster and epic as this one, her greatest uptempo's and her greatest ever ballads are here for enjoyment and it's so vibrant and energetic that no other album can compare and i wish some of the critics acknowledged this, it's almost like Xtina's Like A Prayer meets Bad with some Arular and Homogenic in the mix too. its ethereal, spiritual, grande and cinematic tour de force of an album! |

People just underestimate Christina. All her albums bar the very first one, have all done very well in the UK. Stripped was in the UK top 10 for nearly 18 months. One of the longest top 10 chart runs in history.
Her sales will drop off after this week. Mainly because she has no other promo on the cards and no new single has officially been announced yet. She will follow a similar trend to Rihanna in my opinion. Yet Rihanna did have videos all over the shop. X Factor is certain for XTina this year so her album, and even past albums, will get a big boost that week. If she also performs her current single and the dates are right she could also land another UK number 1 single. So what I am saying is. Never write Madame X off. She always manages to pull it home. |

It may go to number 1 but probably won't sell much and drop quickly.
I think her new song is beyond awful, but what do I know... |

Lol, her album won't sell as much as Rated R at all!
it won't be as consistent sales-wise! I reckon like a previous poster said, she will rise back in the top 40 and fall back out after each new song....and it stays wont be long either! This needs to teach her, new album every 2 years at a minimum...cos she's hardly groundbreaking when she returns, is she?! |

Stripped didn't even go top 30 on its release. It all happened later. |

Weren't you one of the one's claming she would flop ages ago? yet here she is about to go in at number 1. Of course she will sell loads. Its common fact that her sales double when she releases a ballad. She has already said she is planning two ballad releases from this album. I Am will sell the album world over.

It's funny how those who were so sure the album would flop are now changing their wording to saying it won't sell much long term! they obviously have no idea on the power of XTina ballads!

Tbh, I was quite positive in that thread tbh about what she needed to do! http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1266052 Hence, me talking about her sales not position! She might only need to sell like 30K to be no.1 this week = big achievement! And that's if Alicia doesn't steal it off her! She won't sell that well, in the end, her previous albums were at least consistent...this one won't be!!The longevity is what matters, and personally my opinion is, it won't be there with this album. i await to be proved wrong lol...but I dont see that happening! ![]() Next week the album will start its first plummet..and quickly! ![]() P.S. How you even compare this to Stripped is beyond me! Also, she has two albums where ballads have helped....that's the way it works in general...but they do actually have to be good! Hence me saying a new 'beautiful' is needed! |

Bionic is brilliant, no other contemporary artist could create an album as blockbuster and epic as this one Having looked at the credits for this album though I think some other people should be getting some praise for this album not just Christina. |

It is strange that people seem to insist on defining albums but what they sell rather that what is actually on the disc. I can't say I am much of a Christina fan but I still think she has done really well to go through all of the trouble of making another album. She is a premier vocalist which is pretty rare at the moment so for all the people who say its going to flop it seems like there are plenty of people out there that have got the album and are loving it.

And using makes it obvious you want it to flop. You must be gutted she can tick the UK number 1 box.

Exactly, whether Bionic sells 1 copy or 1 million copies, my opinion will still be the same. I think the album is very strong and I really enjoy no matter how many copies it sells.
IMO Bionic is her greatest work and the people she has collaborated with on the album is just phenomenal and i love some people's work already prior to the album and also it's introduced me to new people and artists too! i personally hope it manages to achieve similar success to Stripped, it deserves it! but in all honesty she's created an album which will be looked back as something excellent, i do like NMT very much but i think she should have remained with Glam and given us a really exciting video with it to lead the album which would have gotten more sales for the album (but also it's down to the levels of radio airplay too!) i am more than pleased she is headed for the top spot and yes Bionic's longevity is what will be the success when she releases more singles and does more WW promo! and of course when she sets off on her tour more will sell too! so whether she manages to have massive commercial success or not Bionic will always be my favourite album of 2010 PERIOD! it's sensational! |
