right i have my email client (htc mail) to sync with gmail on my desire.

it recieves messages fine and sends fine but i cant for the life of me figure out why it wont delete the messages i delete from phone on the gmail server.

i know it in settings somewhere but i cannot find them.

Check your sync settings under accounts.

Also worth trying K-9 Mail. It's a much better (in my opinion) web client for android.

Google mail play a litle fast and loose with the mail protocols. they sort of view your gmail account as a permanent record of your email and so kind of ignore delete requests.

it can be quite useful, for example you might want to delete a mail from your phone because it's taking up too much space but don't want to necessarily remove all trace of it.

most of these things are fairly customisable from the web interface - Settings - Forwarding and POP/IMAP

especially if you are using imap, which you should be.
