These phones are generally going to be cheaper in contract than sim free plus payg. Especially as you can't always get good data allowances on payg.

Too many to mention...
Lots of smartphones from £80 on PAYG with Android. Check the network sites for offers. |

Thanks for the replies, I have a 12 months sims contract with 500mb/600 minutes allowance for £15,which suits me. I hate the idea of a 24 month contract.
I like the look of an Iphone, doe the Dell Streak also looks good. price of the phone, not too much of an issue. |

price of the phone, not too much of an issue. If you really want an alternative, as others have mentioned you can't go wrong with the HTC Desire. |

At the moment the closest is probably the HTC Desire, but there are a couple of handsets due quite soon that might be interesting. The Samsung Galaxy S and the Nokia N8 both look to be promising quite a lot.

Well, Traynor, there are a number of alternatives out there that you could consider. For example, the HTC Desire has been mentioned above and there's the Google Nexus One (also made by HTC) and the Dell Streak.
They have Android operating systems and also capacitative multi-touch screens just like the iPhone does. There's also the Palm Pre which has a capacitative touch screen as well. More info on how well the iPhone competitors did here http://www.edibleapple.com/in-contro...eigns-supreme/, here http://www.lightweightlaptops.co.uk/...ative-the-best and here http://cow.neondragon.net/index.php/...-to-the-iphone |

Get a nexusone
I would say get a nexus one. The HTC Sense aint special anymore the stock android does way better and is faster.
And as Android updates role out HTC is the slowest to come out with their updates. I am on Hero they have promised the update to 2.1 way back and they havent updated it yet. HTC Sense had an advantage initially. It was really good. but you should really see how cool android 2.2 is . |

Apart from the Nexus One, which I presume has 2.2 already, are there any other hansets out there that are already using Android 2.2?
There is a beta available for installation but this is not the final code and I can't be bothered to switch to it in the meantime. |

Interestingly, only this very day there have been some articles published about Motorola's new Droid X mobile. It has a humongous screen for a mobile (reminds me a bit of an Archos) and there's more here:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile...e-Confirmed/p1 http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/3375...d-x-sneak-peak It looks like it's Motorola's Android response to the latest iPhone and it'll be interesting to see how it does especially since so many customers are waiting for their iPhone. |
