3D on Sony BDP-S360?
I have just seen a 3D demo and noticed that the source was a Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player.
I was under the impression that a dedicated 3DBD player was needed or an updated PS3. As I have a BDP-S360 at home, does this mean I could use that to play 3DBDs if I had a 3D TV? The set up I saw was using the passive glasses system incase that's relevant but I dont know what make TV it was as the badge was covered. |

Looked on Sony's website. That player doesn't do 3D. Are you sure it was the S360?

Absolutely positive because I was so surprised to see what model it was. I don't know if it had been modified at all if that's possible but I remember thinking "Wow that's the same as mine and I didn't think it could do 3D"
Are there TV's that can convert 2D to 3D? |

This article suggests that there are TVs that can convert 2D to 3D
http://www.reghardware.com/2010/04/1...ordable_3d_tv/ I don't know how reliable that report is and the Sony website makes no mention of it. I wish now I'd had a look round the baxk of the screen for the model number. |

Of course you can watch anaglyph 3D on a blu-ray player, with the appropriate glasses. But it won't be the IMAX experience we hope for!
I show 3D DVDs and Blu-rays in my little home cinema set-up, and they are really very good. But because you are using the colours to separate the left/right images there is always a loss of colour. I understand the new 3D with passive glasses alternate the left/right picture, rather than mixing them together, and the 3D experience is better. The IMAX system uses polarisation, and AFAIK TVs can't do that. The active glasses will do a very good job. I have - somewhere in the cupboard - an active 3D system for the computer. This worked wonderfully well in games like MSFS, but it only worked on CRT monitors with XP. I understand there is a new version that supports Windows Vista and LCD, and I keep meaning to buy it. There is software that converts 2D to 3D, but I didn't try it.out. I think 3D is very interesting and does a lot for the viewing experience. But there is not much 3D material around, So I will wait before lashing out on a 3D TV. |

I have just remembered that the glasses were cinema style Real3D ones. Would that be the anaglyph system or does anaglyph use different coloured lenses?
Apologies if that omission has confused things, I just hope it sheds some light on the matter. |

They will 'simulate' 3D, they won't convert to it, anfd it won't be real 3D - it remains to be seen how good it is.

At CEDIA they are showing Real3D on a JVC TV. This was via a game on the PS3 though.

So does Real3D require a 3D ready TV and a 3DBD to work and will Real3D glasses from the cinema work for any 3D TVs using passive glasses?

Finally, 3D Blu-ray players. The Sony BDP-S470 '3D-ready' model is already on sale, and a 3D firmware upgrade to make it fully 3D-compliant will be released in June.
The BDP-S570 Blu-ray player, which is fully 3D capable out of the box, will go on sale in May. http://www.whathifi.com/News/Sony-co...-PS3-3D-games/ |

Sure I read the Sony BDP-S370 is getting a 3D firmware update this year so maybe the 360 is too?

Will Real3D glasses work with 3D ready TVs that use passive glasses?
eg. If I bought a 3D ready TV which uses passive glasses, could I use the many Real3D glasses I have aquired from cinemas with it? Niall, it was a BDP-S360 as mentioned in my very first post. I'm more confused now than when I started. |

Just watched a SAMSUNG 3d tv demo with bluray 3d player+active glasses an it was great, the same tv can convert standard dvd 2d and bluray 2d to a very watchable simulated 3d ,not as good as the dedicated 3d but still very good, as theres currently only 2 titles on bluray then the 2d to 3d conversion could be a big selling point , And with a bit more tweaking and a decent price i would buy into this technology,.dObRoCoP
![]() Yes 3D titles are a bit of a joke, especially when the Free ones that come with the deals are fetching in excess of £100 on ebay the studioa are waiting to see if it catches on but I reckon it might catch on quicker with something to view bit of a chiken & Egg situation at the moment

Passive 3d tends to be junk. Unless the tv can spit out polarized light its not going to happen. As said, its probably the comic book kind, different color filters for each eye. Color based 3d is possible with any video player, but its not used much because its simply garbage. Its just regular video with half the frames set for each eye, it lacks true full color separation and frame rate for each eye. So you get a heavily degraded experience. The cheep and cheesy 3d dvds are of this type as well. The only way to get full separation at home on flat panel tv is lcd shutter glasses and a true 3d tv and 3d bluray deck that can handle the 120fps true 3d stream. As we've learned in the past, bad 3d is easy to do, its only now that good 3d is starting to become possible.
