I might get told off for not putting it in the HDT8520 thread, but this PVR is a joke.

I set a recording (on ITV HD) for the WC opening ceremony and the opening match Soth Africa vs Mexico. When I came home I looked in the library only to see the the South Africa/Mexico recording had a red warning triangle and would not play back. The opening ceremony looks OK (but I haven't had time to play it back).

I set the box the record the France vs Uruguay in the evening, and also watched it live at the same time (while I was busy doing something else). The box locked up in the middle of the match and would not respond to key presses. I was forced to power-down and then power-up the box. The recording now had the red warning triangle and was unviewable.

Tonight I set the box to record the England vs USA match. This time I was wise and so I watched on my Sky HD+ box, but switched to the Philips box when ITV had all sorts of problems with the HD feed. 40 minutes into the match the Philips had a frozen picture, but the sound was playing. At the end of the program the red recording light went out. The recording had no red triangle, but when I attempted to play the recoding the box hung up.

Previously a during Waterloo Road BBC HD recording the box crashed and re-booted itself.

It's going back tomorrow. Either all boxes are like this or I've got a faulty one.

Is anyone else having these kind of problems recording WC matches?

BTW the box is well ventilated and has a good signal.

I see a pattern forming here, obviously the box has good taste and doesn't like football, and is refusing to record the World Cup.

Could be your box is faulty as that sort of behaviour I've not seen posted before.

Just to let you know that before I returned my Philips I too had the "Red" warning triangle a couple of times plus a couple of missed recordings.

Not much help I know but it is a confirmation that this can happen. Whether a faulty box or something to be fixed in the software update I don't know but wasn't prepared to wait to find out.

Regards,

Dave.
