Hi,

I have the Foxsat set up to output Dolby Digital in the menu and via the optical out cable to my Denon AVR 4308 selected on the Denon via the assign menu to accept the optical signal. The thing is when I have the unit playing it does not show on the Denon as Dolby Digital it shows as "Dolby PL II x Cinema" when I check it on the screen.

Does anyone know why, or whether this correct?

My Sony AMP says "LINEAR PCM-48" for most channels and "DOLBY DIGITAL 3/21" for BBC HD.

Does your amp have a AFD "Auto Format Decode Option" or is it preset to that Dolby PL 11 Mode?

It would only ever show DD on an HD channel. Try it on ITV HD. You should see the logo on screen, and also the amp should detect it. The Denon will show it's got the signal regardless of the processor settings, the defaults would be the correct ones, so unless you have fiddled with the audio options, it should be fine.

My Denon shows prologic11 for DD2.0 transmissions and DD for 5.1. If you look closely though at least on my 4306 the DD indicator icon is lit forDD 2.0 as well as it saying prologic surround.

The BBC-HD preview loop is all 5.1 and the test card has a 5.1 channel and level check built in

thanks for all your replies, I will record the BBC HD Preview and observe what happens. I checked ITV HD and it still shows "Dolby PL II x Cinema" .

I had forgot that the HD trailer has the speaker test! Well remembered!

You are all right, I have just checked BBC HD it shows the Dolby Digtal logo, plus displays Dolby Digital on the main display of the Denon. The thing is I had assumed wrongly that the fact the Dolby Digital logo appeared on the top right hand side of the TV watching ITV 1HD for example that it was 5.1, so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Springwatch on BBC HD at the moment is in DD2.0 and sounds very odd so not the best test.
