Is it just the 2g side of things that has the roam agreement then?

Eventually the roaming agreement will encompass the 3G networks combined, however at this stage it is just 2G. I dare say most things should begin to be opened up on the 3G side around the 4th quarter. Orange for competition reasons had to agree a network sharing arrangement with 3. So there is nothing currently preventing 3G network roaming. Eventually one would assume that there will be 3 operators sharing the one network.

Although I think it was prking explained it in previous threads, 3 may only be mast sharing and may not be using the same 3G networks as Orange and T-Mobile.

EDIT: I don't know the exact arrangement with 3, though I do know 3G network roaming is on the cards as a result of the merger.

Could Orange be using 3G T-Mobile masts already (& vice versa) in areas which have been identified as needing them.

As the area I'm in used to have a few black spots (as with any network) around the city with Orange but in these black spots T-mobile was always there and in T-mobile black spots Orange was always there. Now there is no low signal areas on 3G here. Literally like a switch was flicked and boom amazing coverage and what seems faster speeds too.

There has not been planning permission requested/approved from either in ages!

AFAIK, Orange creating a RAN share with T-M/3 when they already have one in place, combined with a 2G national roaming agreement between O and T-M is quite a logistical headf**k.

Well...only 15 minutes to see if it this is true!

You reckon it'll happen at midnight?
I think it already has happened, i've had a strong 3G signal at home for the last couple of days but T-Mobile's website says there's NO 3G here at all. Orange says there's a moderate 3G signal here. Who knows.

There's no way anything will have happened that quickly IMHO, personally I wouldn't expect much to happen before the end of the year.

As for your 3G signal, have you checked 3's website?

Yes, but 3 and t-mobile are in the process of sharing their 3g network, which will be completed by october 2010

The 3 website says I might get a signal outside but no indoor coverage. Maybe T-Mobile are upgrading around here and just haven't updated the website or something. Either way my area is better covered now so i'm not going to moan about it!

I was told by T-Mobile biz C.S. a few weeks ago 2g roaming would start to be rolled out from 1 July over the next two months - no set dates although she mentioned that Sunderland is often first because T-Mobile have a base there making it easy to test with "real" users should the need arrive - 3G roaming would follow after that.

Couldn't connect to Orange 2G today here in Nottingham - although the error message changed this morning any "wrong" network now says "Your SIM card does not allow connection to this network" - Interestingly my phone is now listing the two Orange networks in 3rd and 4th position rather than randomly in the list (T-Mobile are always 1st and 2nd - and annoyingly Android gives no 2G/3G indication against them! A list of T-Mobile; T-Mobile; Orange; Orange; 02-UK; vodafone UK; 3 UK is a bit rubbish!)

I've just got off the phone with someone in the Orange call centre and they said I'll be able to use the T-Mobile network from 21st July

Hmmm.... that's a date that's not mentioned anywhere on the internal intranet. I'd say that was just an educated (or not) guess....

Should anything appear on the intranet I hope you will report back

I had a call back from CS today about this. Roaming for PAYG is now active and for pay monthly customers the roaming will start in September.

PAYM will be earlier than that, trust me. PAYG starting now I can believe, although I cannot confirm. At least until tomorrow when I'm back at work

I was sent a spare Orange PAYG sim card when I upgraded to the IP4. I just stuck it in a old phone and tried a manual roam and selected T-Mobile. Its connected and shows up as Orange. So roaming is now working for PAYG customers.

Well it lasted all of about 10 minutes then it came up no access. So must be early days yet.

Did it tell you that it was roaming or is it completley transparent?

Is this 3G or 2G? I've tried my T-Mobile PaynGo sim 'no access' and my orange contract same thing!

I've been following this thread and looking forward to the roaming too.

I've had 'No access' to the other network when trying on T-Mobile PAYG, Orange contract & Orange PAYG. Hope this is implemented sooner rather than later.
