Does it really matter? Fact is it'll be public knowledge soon enough. He's not exactly revealing anything damaging.

And it's nice to know what's in the pipeline.

What I or plymouthbloke has said isn't incriminating, evidently plymouthbloke is more in the know than I ever will be given where I assume he works. Thats said I certainly am not in PR, I work for the company and know as much or as little as the next employee. Theres nothing revealing about what I have said, all I have said relates to a company policy/script we give out to customers when they enquire.

Same goes I dare say for plymouthbloke, although he seems privy to more of the technical stuff than I am. However had I had sensitive information I wouldn't be so daft enough to post it on this website or any other publicly.

I have the rollout dates now. Not long to go. Not allowed to reveal dates but internal users (staff) will go first, followed VERY shortly after by customers, in batches. There will be full support, including an SMS the first time the h/set roams onto T-Mobile to explain what is happening.

.... well seeing as my user name denotes I'm a bloke from plymouth, that narrows it down to 50% of the staff I suppose!

I've not really mentioned anything more that what has already been discussed?!?

And presumably the '1974' reveals your birth year, further narrowing things down!

It's not a bad thing having leaks. Takes pressure off staff, keeps folk staying with the brand as they know something is coming soon, but have no come back if times are pushed back as it was just a rumour. Companies do it all the time

"Not long to go" Great, but could mean weeks though.

@plymouthbloke1974

Can you tell me if this applies to customers on t-mobile as well i.e will t-mobile customers roam onto orange 2g?

Thanks

Yes it does. The announcement was made official today. Look at http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk

The staff from both should have access sometime next week...

Kind of, there's going to be a form to fill on the tmobile website which will then provide information to customers on launch.

Its exciting to see a date of October 5th has been announced. Looking forward for the roaming to begin!

New information has been posted on @conorfromorange's Twitter account this morning. Both T-Mobile and Orange are now inviting their customers to opt-in to be able to access both networks.

Here are the links to the:

T-Mobile web form

Orange web form

From what I can gather, the people who sign up here will gain access to both networks from October 5th, whilst all other customers won't be able to do this until 2011. T-Mobile / Orange may contact you during this period to ask about your experiences regarding the network share.

Thanks for the update. Where did you get the info on dates from?

This is great news for people on both networks... the improved coverage is really going to be impressive compared to the other networks now...

Shame I'm tied to Three for the next year...

Why? Their leading 3G coverage is pretty much the same as T-Mobile (the merger is almost complete), with Orange's 3G network being merged at some point too.

It will be interesting to see if 3 will see about roaming on T-Mobile when it is fully in operation for Orange customers (although, perhaps not likely, given that 3 is going for 98% coverage by the end of the year)

It's a shame that data roaming wont be allowed.

Is it true that there will be no data roaming in place ? So if there is no signal and roam onto orange from t-mobile will only be able to make calls and send sms ?

If that's true it seems a tad short sighted - with all those data hungry phones that expect to be permanently connected.

That's what the press release strongly implies:

Looks like it'll work eventually, but it makes it rather pointless in the interim because, as moox pointed out, many devices need a connection that is "always on".

I was hoping to use this with my Orange mobile broadband dongle.

Wait until the end of the month. I guess that's when T-Mobile and Orange start contacting customers.

I dont see how its going to work if data isnt included.

I'm on T-Mobile and if I go into an area with poor T-mobile signal but really good Orange signal the phone will roam onto Orange. But what if I want to use data?

I wouldnt want my phone ever roaming onto a network without data coverage even if the data coverage on the home network is low
