Orange overcharge me!
jaimesw

Well only 25p but it's the principal.

Sent a text on my iphone a week ago and still have the text on my phone. On my bill orange have charged me 25p for a photo message even though it was a two word message to say 'thank you' to a mate. Absolutely no photo attached at all.

I sent an email off this morning as I don't want to phone and chase 25p!! but think of all the money they could make from millions of customers if they tried this on everyone

Plus I could use the money to pay for my paper in the morning!

Plus correct me if I'm wrong, but can you actually send a photo message via a text message on iphones?

I have encountered something similar, but not with Orange) which may explain the charge.

A couple of words reply to a "pictute message" received was sent as a "picture message" since when replying the "Text message" option offerred was not accepted.

So, did you reply as a "Picture" rather than "Text" message and that is giving rise to the charge?

No, no picture message at all from this contact. All his messages have been texts I think I'm going to send for scooby doo!

Orange used to charge me 30p instantly for calling voicemail. Their Internet charges were astronomical.

No fear. I have the answer!

When you write a text message on an iPhone, you may have accidentally typed in the "subject" line at the top of the message. This instantly converts it to an MMS and sends it as such.

The way to avoid this is:

Settings -> Messages -> MMS Messaging.

Turn that to OFF and the subject line won't appear when you are writing a message.

Try it for yourself first and you'll see what I mean. Go to write a new text and type something in the top line where it says "Subject".

You'll see at the top, it changes from "New Message" to "New MMS".

Problem solved. Shame I didn't see this earlier!

Hi jaimesw,

No problem. Just waiting for the email team to forward your mail.

plymouthbloke1974 - mmm you may be on to something with that however the cursor is defaulted to the text section and not subject line, so you would need to then click on the subject line for that to happen? Also you should just be able to switch off ‘show subject field’ without disabling MMS.

Sorry I missed your call today. However I won't be returning your call at a cost of 50p a minute, or what ever it cost to phone the number you gave Seeing it's only to discuss an overcharge of 25p

Sums Orange up I think.

Another way Orange makes money - have you noticed how quickly the Orange answerphone cuts in when you ring an Orange number?
